Hello hopefully new friends lol I am super brand new to magic .. And i mean i was at my local comic book store and they had a tournament maybe a couple hours ago and i came right home, tried to find a forum so i could learn and create something to play . i have never played a tcg and thid will be my first so i have no idea really at all whats going on but i did see in someone's binder a couple of vampire cards and i wanted to make a vampire deck , also i heard this guy had a " no " deck and i asked him what he meant and he saif basically its a deck that says no to anything your opponent wants to do . so i would like to build 2 decks i have no idea what formats are but what i do know is i want to make them the best they can be so if i wanted to join a tournament i could go in there with pride when i play either one of the decks . and due to my hospitalization that ended up making me lose my job i am on the broke side so something budgit would be nice that i could tweak later if or when i pull cards from packs .... Thank you guys for your time and patients with my pleb rambling and also thank all of you who help in advance <3

Welcome to MTG. It's a fine game, put let me throw you a piece of advice.

Start looking at cards and decks here on the site and the Gatherer page (official). Learn the basic rules and mechanics of the game (plenty of resources on the internet. Another good soul will provide links).
The only other small thing I'd mention is that you should start with just one deck, with an open mind. Don't spend too much in just one fell swoop, as you could end up with a deck you don't really like (has happened to me once or twice).
Learn from the people at your mtg store and read read read. Get comfortable with the unique characteristics of each color, and the cards that typically see play in each different format.

Magic needs time, and only fools rush in!

Hope this gives you some orientation. Happy tapping!

(Check the Vampire decks in this website, you learn a lot from just watching)

Here's my vampire / zombie / monster deck for Modern. It works pretty good, I'm just on a different deck right now ("Mardu" or WBR control)

It'll run you about $1K to buy all the cards fresh. It can be rough just starting out, especially if you're trying to play Modern or Legacy and need some of the old cards. The most common constructed format is called "Standard" which only allows you to use cards from the newest sets. When a new set drops, the oldest set "rotates" out of format legality for Standard. It's the easiest and cheapest format to jump into, but also the hardest to master because the pros are constantly coming up with new innovations week to week and if you fall behind on your internet research you just can't keep up with the newest "tech".

Since you really like vampires, I would recommend Elder Dragon Highlander, or EDH (also called Commander). Commander / EDH requires you to build a 100 card deck, but you can only use one copy of each card. Additionally, you have a legendary creature as your "commander" that you can cast at any time, sorta the same thing as the heroes in Hearthstone. EDH is great for multiplayer, has a huge casual following, and lets people build basically any deck they want with whatever commander speaks to them (perhaps you'd like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, for example). That's probably where you want to start.

As far as the budget goes, my advice there is don't buy a budget deck that turns out to be bad. Instead just bite the bullet and save up for what you really want. In the mean time, your friends will let you use "proxies", fake cards that you make with a marker or whatever to test the deck before the real cards come in the mail.

Good luck!

You guys are so awesome <3<3<3<3 ... So cheapest way to go is standered but it may be more difficult because pro players come up with sick combos and new play styles ?

It's cheap in the short term but if you want to compete in the big tournaments it gets expensive quick. You have to be ready to change decks at the drop of a hat because everyone else is trying to do the same thing to "beat the meta game".

Like say Deck A is the best deck but Deck B beats it. If people start playing Deck B then Deck A becomes "bad" because it won't take down a tournament where everyone is playing Deck B. But then some guy starts playing Deck C because it beats Deck B, and then people start trying a different version of Deck A because it's good against Deck C.

Standard is a great place to start at Friday Night Magic, but at the level the pros play it it can get boring quick. You often see them playing a deck or talking about a card with no passion. They just want to win the tournament and will play whatever deck or card they think will get them there.

That being said, there is still room to play a deck or strategy that you like, especially if you get into Modern and Legacy. Those formats can be extremely pricy though. I'd recommend starting with Standard at Friday Night Magic and Elder Dragon Highlander to have some fun and play with cool cards.

Go to the Wizards shop locator, enter your details, and you'll find a place where you can play it.

Good luck.

PS. I don't build decks for people. That just makes them lazy. You can do a Google search to find tips on how to build your own decks.

Jump in. Build your own deck. Then leave a message for me on my Profile and I will take a look at it.
