Help!! My name is hjaycee and it is a pleasure to meet you all. I am in need of some advice on how to make a Golgari Control deck. This may sound a bit weird, but I've been curious to see how it would play out. If anyone can help a brother out, then you have a humble gratitude. My budget ranges about $300.

How come you have $400 for standard and $300 for modern, the format that requires a larger down-payment?

Variants on golgari midrange are top tier in modern and among the best decks. Unfortunately the fully tuned versions are around $1500. Do you mean golgari control in the strictest sense or golgari midrange? Midrange is very possible but control isnt so much. Doing golgari in modern for $300 is possible - you'd get a pick of some of the key cards but not all of them.

Golgari control in the strictest sense, ChiefBell. A friend of mine said it is possible to create one. I would have to build it around a certain card. This card Seasons Past intrigue me to make a modern build centering around it. I thought a strict control concept can work since it allows you to bring back cards with different converted mana costs. The idea is still underdevelopment, but I'm supremely confident that it can be a thing.

Jay - I appreciate these suggestions. I'll look into them.

I think that if you did a golgari deck centered around Biorhythm and cheap removal spells, along with ramp could be useful. it would definitely be under $300

ChiefBell - It is a modern build. What I am trying to do is build a modern Seasons Past deck.

I can't really help. I don't think Seasons Past is viable in modern.

ChiefBell That is not a problem. I appreciate your input.

due to the pretty huge mana cost youre probably going to want to be using Birds of Paradise and Sakura-Tribe Elder. However doing this means youre not playing hard control because youre not leaving mana open to remove opposing threats.

It sounds like a challenge but it may be possible. Are you completely stuck on the colors though, or would you be willing to play BGW?

Okay, and would a Rock style deck fit what you are looking for in this? Something kind of grindy, advantage by attrition kind of thing.
