I admit to not understanding the fascination with foil cards personally. I am usually happy just to finish a deck, but it can often take me months to acquire all of the cards I want for it on my budget (though I only build EDH decks).

I can understand people being attracted to shiny things but foiling out decks seems a bit much for my taste the most I'd do is get promo versions of cards

I understand the want to foil out your deck. It is very fun to play your all foiled out deck that just doubled in price. Also, the work that you have to do to get to that goal can also be fun. That being said, i don't personally like foils. They curl/bend and depending on how severe your foil has bended, you can't use it. I would not get straight of foils, but promo's instead that for they are a bit more interesting. Also, instead of foils, i am try to spice up my edh decks with altered cards and foreign printings (german/japanese).

Personally, I'm more a fan of unique deck customization through alters, promos, and sentimental cards. However, foil decks look beautiful, especially with the right lands. If you have the money to spend, go for it!
