Deck Help forum

Hey everyone I am looking to make my very first commander deck and I am super excited about learning the format!

I know I want my commander to be Numot, the Devestator because he is awesome! I love the RWU shell as those are deffinitely my colors in magic and I LOVE DRAGONS! So, I want to make a dragon tribal deck.

Please Leave me suggestions as I seriously have no idea what I am doing. Where do I start? How many lands go in a Commander deck anyway? Thanks everyone! I hope you all have fun with this like I will!

oops, the link for the dragon actually linked to someone else's deck. Sorry :/ not really sure how to fix that.

Look at the URL for your deck to get the name of your deck and put that in brackets.

For example:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/prossh-skyraider-of-the-kitchen-table/

So I would put prossh-skyraider-of-the-kitchen-table in brackets.

Prossh, Skyraider of the Kitchen Table

A Dragon tribal deck? Try this Gatherer search: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?type=+[Dragon]||subtype=+[Dragon]&color=+@([W]|[U]|[R])

Since you'll have a TON of flying creatures, look for cards that synergize with flying. That color combination lends itself to either combat or control tactics. For example, you could utilize White and Red to manipulate combat (Pacifism, Ghostly Prison, Madcap Skills), even Blue could lend unblockable to your dragons (aqueous form).

Control tactics could include card draw, counterspell, destroying permanents, and burn.

Find the style you want to support your dragons and go for it!

You need 5 things to be successful in commander (in most decks):

Mana ramp.

Your colors are not particularly suited to ramping, so like many commander decks you'll need to depend on some artifacts to help you ramp up. Sol Ring , Gilded Lotus , Worn Powerstone , Chromatic Lantern , and Thran Dynamo should get you started. Since it is a 40 life format, usually with a lot of players, the game is won in the mid to late game 90% of the time. Mana ramp helps you accelerate to this stage of the game sooner. Also you can play Weathered Wayfarer to help you search up utility lands and Land Tax to help you hit land drops.

Card Draw.

You'll need something to do with all of this mana you'll be making, so card draw engines are really important. Recurring Insight , Fact or Fiction , Blue Sun's Zenith , Sphinx's Revelation , Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur , Bident of Thassa (if you're running a creature heavy build), and Consecrated Sphinx should get you started.

Tutoring.

In a deck with 99 cards, you really need some consistency to help you get what you need when you need it. Enlightened Tutor , Mystical Tutor , Academy Rector , Steelshaper's Gift , Stoneforge Mystic , Merchant Scroll , Fabricate , and Tezzeret the Seeker are some ideas in your colors.

Board Wipes.

Sometimes in Commander, you're just not winning. In these situations, it's best to have a way of wiping the board so that you don't die. Wrath of God , Austere Command , Cyclonic Rift , Planar Cleansing , Blasphemous Act , Hallowed Burial , and Terminus are some staples in your colors.

Graveyard Recursion.

You want to be able to play out of your graveyard, because it lets you play with your best cards for longer. I have topdecked a Treasured Find and won the game on the spot at times. Some good ones for you would be Mimic Vat , Sun Titan , Reveillark (which is deceptively good if you run things like Stoneforge Mystic and Trinket Mage ), Archaeomancer , Snapcaster Mage , and Reya Dawnbringer are all in your colors.

Also, just some general advice based on your general, since he is dependent on attacking, equipments that give him haste and evasion will be really useful. Almost all of the 'sword of yadayadayadas' would be good, Whispersilk Cloak , Lightning Greaves , Swiftfoot Boots , Skyblinder Staff and friends would be cool.

Good luck with your deck man! Check out my budget Damia deck, EDH on a BUG...et =)

Considering dragons are all expensive id make the deck control heavy plenty of removal and boardwipes till your dragons come out.
