Building a basic teaching deck

Deck Help forum

I'm trying to teach my girlfriend and her sister how to play magic. I don't know what a "basic" deck would be to teach them with. I am fine with any color as long as it is cheap.

thank you all for the help

I would check your LGS, days dedicated to teaching newcomers are frequent, and they might have learning decks laying around. If you find yourself frequently teaching new people, I would check out , I grabbed a set and they have been really great for teaching, and because my play group has a wide variety of power level decks, it's nice to have a baseline we can play exhibition games with.

huh, the link didn't work. That should say "I would check out Rookie Decks from Card Kingdom", here's the link

The key to teaching decks is that they are flavorful and effective, while still teaching someone new a wide variety of rules.

Card Kingdom's rookie decks are a good start.

I've also done a fair bit of teaching, and so I developed four teaching decks @ a T/O deck folder called Kid Brother Decks, which you can search (they're totally unisex, it's just that "kid brother, sister, acquaintance, or boy/girlfriend" was a bit less catchy). They're all pretty cheap and are unique strategically, so they might be something you're interested in, at least for a baseline.

Tribal is usually the best to start when teaching someone. It presents proper synergy and mechanics, and makes the game fairly easy to grasp. My first deck was elves and goblins. And they can be built fairly cheaply. Obviously, if they get into it and want to make it more competitve it can get pretty expensive.

I was thinking of rebuilding a ln elf deck i have anyways lol. I'll start it off as 40 card decks so she can see most of thecards multiple times. With he second deck idk if i'd go goblins or cats. She'd love the cat deck but i know it would perform up to the elfs standards from the cards i've found
