Budget Standard Aggro or Control options?

Deck Help forum

My brother is coming into town to go to Gen Con with me in a few weeks. He just started playing Magic (which is his primary reason for attending). I haven't played since Zendikar block, and I also haven't followed it at all since then. I want to play some Magic with him while he's here, but I'd rather get myself a deck that's more competitive than starter decks.

I played a lot of Red Deck Wins when I played, but I also loved control decks. Are there any good options for a sub-$100 aggro or control decks in the current Standard rotation that would be worth having for some fun casually competitive play?

I appreciate any help you guys have. Thanks!

This will be easier than putting a list of all cards here, so take a look at this: I mill no offense. Get rid of all mill options and you have nice, fast UG aggro deck based on Assault Formation and creatures with 2-3 CMC that can easily became 6/6 or 7/7 turn 2 or 3. If you don't like the U option, it can work also good with W (things like Lagonna-Band Trailblazer, Glaring Aegis and so on).

Mono black is good and cheap right now, most of the good Mono black aggro cards are near bulk. If you need insight, my deck here minus the foil titan and bloodstained mire can easily be done under 100

Yup, esepcially with things like Erebos's Titan and Gray Merchant of Asphodel or other devotion options - Whip of Erebos, Master of the Feast and so on.

Thank you guys for some helpful insight!

I've also contemplated grabbing 2 copies of the Armed & Dangerous Clash Pack. From some other research, it seems like it could be a decent way to put a secondary deck together (2x Clash Pack + augment with singles).
