Budget Casual Vintage decks

Deck Help forum

I want to buy about 4 vintage decks but when I say vintage I mean what people played back in 1995 or something. Like the list of cards that were used if you were playing then. Thanks!! (P.S if you don't understand what I am trying to say your not alone neither can I. I can't really put in words)

Some of those lists won't be budget, broski lol. I mean, I suppose you can come close to budget...

I remember playing a / deck that used a ton of mana dorks like Llanowar Elves, Tinder Wall, and so forth that ramped into Force of Nature and Shivan Dragon. I had Lightning Bolt and Fireball in there too. I also played a / Tempo/Control build that used burn spells, Prodigal Sorcerer, Counterspell, Force of Will, Forbid, etc. It was a Delver deck before Delver! I also played a straight up burn deck with Jackal Pup, Ball Lightning, Chain Lightning, Lightning Bolt, etc.

I had a friend of mine that played a mean / control deck that used discard like Hymn to Tourach, Hypnotic Specter, and counter magic. I had another friend that played a / control deck of sorts that ran Ali from Cairo, Forcefield, Mishra's Factory, burn spells, and counter magic.

White weenie was popular back then with Meekstone, Savannah Lions, etc. That'd be a neat budget deck. Elves was also very good back then.

I hope this gives you some ideas, mate!

The best you can do is have a look at the cards of 4th and 5th edition: those had a lot of cards that were used.

Maybe this link helps

But there is a format for that! It is called Old School or 1995, and allows cards printed only until 1995. Google Old School MTG to find out more on the format, there are some big tournaments on it.

Does anyone know of a merfolk deck containing cards of sets before 1997?

If you want to go super old skool, you can just run 4x Channel and 4x Fireball plus 52 other cards and call it a day.

I mean, granted, it needs Black Lotus to be a T0 kill, but it's still good without lotus

Here's a deck that I play like that: R/G Budget Old School Casual

To make it more budget friendly, swap in Forests for Pendelhavens, and Llanowar Elves for Birds. The Dervishes and Chain Lightning would be harder to replace, and there's really no substitute for Wheel of Fortune. You could always give it the Old School feel and just look for the most beat-up copies of those cards out there.

Here's some info on the Old School format, mentioned above: http://www.eternalcentral.com/oldschool/
