Bant Constellation Answers To:

Deck Help forum

So, I brewed up a Bant Constellation deck (Bant! Bant as ePhara as the eye can see!) and I've had some good results against most decks. Two decks I haven't faced but I think could pose problems for me are UW Heroic and UB Control. So I'm looking for some good cards against these decks in Bant colours (GUW for the unaware).

I was thinking about Valorous Stance and Reality Shift as decent cards for Heroic, and then Stubborn Denial for UB, but I'm kind of at a loss, having come from Abzan which has answers to everything. So any advice would be great.

In the UB matchup, just having one card won't win you matches. It's an inherently bad matchup because they are a lot slower than you, but you aren't fast enough to take games from them before they can set up. I'd highly suggest conceding that matchup with regards to deckbuilding and focusing your efforts on beating other midrange and aggressive decks as efficiently as possible.

Against Heroic, Valorous Stance is excellent, as well as Erase for some of the Ordeals and other stuff. Your only real problem is the unblockable/flying enchantments, as you put out a great deal of ground blockers to allow you to set up shop.

GlistenerAgent is spot on regarding enchantment removal in the UW Heroic matchup; sources of consistent evasion are your biggest problems. In general, I see fast decks being a bad matchup for you, unless you happen to hit the Caryatid-Courser combo early on (~30% chance).

But I honestly don't see why UB Control should be a bad matchup. Ephara, Mastery of the Unseen, Boon Satyr, Whisperwood, and Eidolon of Blossoms are all fantastic. You can play around Ugin pretty well too, and their other win cons aren't terrible for you. I'd probably just pack more Negate if you're worried about it.

Perilous Vault and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon are pretty big deals. If the UB player chooses to play fewer or none of those cards, you're golden. Otherwise, you won't really be able to overcome their card advantage and removal. That said, I've never seen this play out so I could be horribly wrong.

I mean, other than counterspells, there's not much that gets around a Vault or Crux. You could try something cheeky like Hour of Need. Doesn't get around a wrath but getting a 4/4 flying sphinx, or multiple flying sphinx's if they tap out or try and downfall or something is kinda good. Also works on making your caryatids useful in the late game.

Vault and Ugin are problems for many decks, but I do feel that there's a decent amount of resiliency here. Banishing Light as a 4-of will more than offset what most UB decks are packing Vault-wise, plus the card advantage in the deck can make it sting a lot less. Ugin can be played around with face-down creatures. You also have the best answer to Crux of Fate with Whisperwood Elemental.
