Sphinx's Revelation is awful. If you want to play something like that the best option is Dig Through Time. You also need to pick up the 4th Force of Will at some point. Your comb matchups aren't going to be very good without it. You also really need the 4th Counterbalance. I'd also drop a Counterspell and a Pyroblast for 2 more Swords to Plowshares

Sphinx's is penny pinching and a lifeline at instant speed, the decklist is based on the list run at gpnj hence the 3 counterbalance and 3 force of will

There were two copies of miracles in the top 8 at new jersey and both ran 4 forces, 4 counterbalance.

They also definitely didn't play Sphinx's Revelation. The card is a terrible inclusion and is definitely not where you want to be..

Your list isn't particularly close to Losset's list.

Well you took out the spell pierce for the sphinxes rev which I feel is incorrect. Also lossett has played the deck for years and is an expert at it. Unless you can tell me that you can play the deck as well as him, you will need the fourth force of will to help you out

The sideboard is from another top 8 list swapping 2 cards for cheaper alternatives or things I already have that are close alternatives

also, never played the deck my fnm doesn't play legacy and as the only legacy player at my fnm i only have a dredge deck so far

For once, Im on venom's side.

His choices werent because he thought things were better, but because he had to make some budget decisions.

Thats fine and all, just dont expect to do well with it in a competitive legacy event (which it sounds like you wont be apart of for a while.)

I just feel like we are attacking him, when he didnt really do anything wrong.

While I was dismissive,I'm sure your comment targets other people moreso than me. That being said, you can play plenty of legacy online for free. I still disagree with sphinxes rev no matter what the budget is. Spell pierce and spell snare both better alternatives at a low cost

Attacking him? We're making suggestions and giving advice. Exactly what he asked for.

noone is attacking me, but alot of things are being thrown out the window with sub par explanations saying "it's bad" isn't an explanation, it's a statement that leaves the person receiving it in the dark

Sphinx's Revelation costs at least four mana to do anything at all, and if you are using it for lifegain you need to be casting it for 3+. Many Legacy games end relatively early, and even if the games do go that long I think you would still rather have a different card-drawer like Treasure Cruise or Dig Through Time, just because those can be cast earlier and always provide a benefit.

So in the format, efficiency is key. Sphinxes rev at bare minimum is a four mana draw a card and gain a life. Your goal with the deck is to get the lock and control the board as quickly as possible and then you can screw around. While rev is a good mana sink I guess after the lock. Having reduced force of wills means less free spells since you don't play daze and it means really fast decks like combo have a better chance at blowing you out of the water since you have no clock. So what you want to do is find cards like maybe more swords to plwshares or elspeth knight errant (some versions play it) in order to be proactive or response against threats. Sphinxes rev simply doesn't meet those qualifications in my opinion

other budget options i thought of that i have are Elixir of Immortality for the same reason you'd run snapcasters or Ponder which i seem to keep being sent when i buy cards

xlaleclx says... #22

Ponder is played in the European lists. I personally wouldn't play it but it's definitely viable in the deck.

Or like I said before: spell pierce, spell snare or swords to plow shares

Sideboard

I'd have to agree with julianjmoss. Pyroblast is very maindeckable, but I feel Flusterstorm should be saved in the board for matchups where you will fight a real counter war.
