Almost Death & Taxes (Legacy)

Deck Help forum

Ok, so my favourite deck is Death & Taxes. I have been drooling over it for a year now, while i have been playing the deck as a white weenie deck.

I decided to invest in the deck and ordered 4x Wasteland the other day. Now its starting to look more like a real D&T deck, but the mana denial strategy is still pretty weak.

It will probably take long time before i can invest in Rishadan Port and Karakas to make the deck complete. I will play the deck until then, and i want the deck to be as good as it can be without Rishadan Port and Karakas .

Here is my current decklist: Death & Taxes.

Im running 4x Serra Avenger and 3x Mirran Crusader to compensate the weak mana denial with a white weenie approach. I do know that D&T and white weenie are 2 completely different decks and strategies, but i need to speed up the damage if i cant slow down my opponent.

Im looking for suggestions for strategies when combining white weenie and D&T. Should i add more hatebears? Should i add more aggressive creatures? Should i splash green for Knight of the Reliquary to be able to get the most out of my Wasteland s?

My meta consists mostly of Reanimate, Burn, Tin Fins, 8-Rack, Combo Elves, Legacy Affinity and Dredge.

Suggestions are really appreciated.

DNT is a solid choice and should dominate the meta as described by you. There really is no substitute to some cards - vs 8 rack and burn, I would SB 3 Leyline of Sanctity , since you know the meta, it is a great choice. Much more resilient than the hexproof soldier (-1 SotL, -2 Hexproof soldier dude, +3 leyline). We are very vulnerable to hand disruption, so 8-rack hurts a lot, thankfully it is not a thing in the general legacy meta.

Vs combo elves, I would main deck the 4 Ghost Quarter and given the meta, throw out 3 avengers and a crusader for 4 Leonin Arbiter . It shuts down all the combo decks.

Scepter of dominaria is not really a good card to run, given the investment. Considering you are running it for cards like Griselbrand , you would be much better off with 2 copies of Celestial Flare aka poor mans Council's Judgment .

I am a big fan of 4 flickerwisps in the main. I think it is the best creature in the deck. Other considerations will include 2 Mangara of Corondor , an outdated tech, but still viable and one of your few answers to the Flying Spaghetti monster.

Thanks for your suggestions, its really helpfull. You say flickerwisp. You and everyone else claim that this is a really great card. That is the only reason i run it :). I have never been in a situation where i wish i had flickerwisp, and i have never played it with value i expect. I have been toying all day with the idea of replacing the 3x flickerwisp and one of the mirran crusader with 4x Knight of the Reliquary to get more out of wasteland and he would be a 4/4 or 5/5 for 3 mana. It would also open up for a land toolbox. What do you think about a G/W version of D&T (not maverick) just for splashing for the knight? Or should i just bite the sour apple and spend money, a looot of money, on the 4 cardboard pieces called rishadan port? :s

Serra Avenger is a D&T staple why wouldnt you run it?

I might consider mainboarding a Spirit of the Labyrinth considering brainstorm, ponder, preordain, are all big things.

Horizon Canopy is a good one of incase you flood and kinda cycles whenever you need it to.

Manriki-Gusari is insane against D&T and any stoneforge deck, i highly recommend in the sideboard, never regretted it last open i was at

Aegis of the Gods i dont think is where you really wanna be, where leyline is much much better.

Getting on a KotR plan usually means you're going to have at least 1 Dark Depths and Vesuva since its just a good combo, while i feel normal D&T is much stronger. Brimaz is another really good 3 drop card that also fits with Karakas

Flickerwisp is used in conjunction with AEther Vial to do all kinds of shenanigans. The main interactions are with Stoneforge Mystic and resetting Phyrexian Revoker (for example, name Jace, the Mind Sculptor , kill him, then Flickerwisp and name Deathrite Shaman ).

If you have Mangara of Corondor , you can permanently exile stuff.

...and not lose your Mangara of Corondor . Sorry for double posting.

Hopefully you know of the Karakas + Mangara of Corondor combo.

I recommend trying Spirit of the Labyrinth perhaps in the sideboard, as well as Brimaz, King of Oreskos just because if they let him get going, it will be hard to stop (especially if you can get equipment out).

Also, note that elves is a terrible matchup for you deck. You can win, but you would need to get pretty lucky. Burn is Burn, and if you can get a threat out quickly against 8-Rack, you should be fine.

Tin Fins and Reanimator are all about Karakas , so if you proxy those or get them soon you'll be great there.

Affinity and Dredge are harder, but Stony Silence in the sideboard (may be bad with your Umezawa's Jitte ) helps against Affinity and Rest in Peace beats Dredge.

Thanks for your suggestions! Im intrigued with all the fun stuff you can do, but i think most of it is good only in a deck with karakas and port.

With fetchlands being reprinted in KTK i couldn't refuse purchasing a playset Knight of the Reliquary . Ive been testing her out, and at least its a fun beatstick for the deck.

Check out my G/W version of D&T (or should i call it mavericks now?):
