The Long Winter V2 (weenies + stalling)

Hey! So I'm in the finishing stages of a Hokori casual commander (duel legal) I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. It started at over 250 cards, and now I'm down to 143. Which of course means that 43 cards have to go.

But it's just too much for my heart hahaha I really like every single card on that list so I call upon you all to help me point out all the flaws I'm not seeing here. Any feedback is appreciated.

Well, it depends on how casual you want your deck to be. I'd say that the deck would be good fun without a couple of bad Homelands/Arabian Nights stuff, but it's certainly not competitive in any shape or form.

Oh yes, it's meant to be very casual. I mostly want to test a stax strategy in Duel Commander. I do believe it has -some- consistency to it, though, even if I'm not dreaming of taking down any Geists.

Apologies for the confusion, but if you mean to play Stax... Wouldn't the deck not be casual then? Land destruction and such isn't very casual to most EDH players I know.

I meant casual in the sense of low investment and not many worries about win ratio. We have a great Duel Commander community here at my store and I wanted a fun deck to annoy my customers in everyday matches.

All right, I understand what you mean now. In that case, I'll just make things simple and give you a laundry list of things that I'd personally cut.

Abu Ja'far , Accorder Paladin , Alaborn Zealot , Devoted Caretaker , Dust Elemental , Gideon's Lawkeeper , Herald of Anafenza , Ivory Giant , Loyal Sentry , Martyr of Sands , Preacher , Soltari Monk , Soltari Priest , Tethered Griffin , Trade Caravan , Thraben Doomsayer , Viseling , Gideon, Champion of Justice , Arena of the Ancients , Ashnod's Altar , Black Vise , Clock of Omens , Darksteel Reactor , Energy Chamber , Glaring Spotlight , Howling Mine , Lux Cannon , Mishra's Helix , Scepter of Dominance , Unwinding Clock , Coalition Flag , Cowed by Wisdom , Defensive Formation , Greater Auramancy , Oppressive Rays , Pacifism , Pentarch Ward , Soul Snare , Spirit Loop , Heroes Remembered , Mine Excavation , Oust , Restore Balance , Ritual of Restoration , Dispatch , Erase , Excise , Reciprocate , Scout's Warning .

Yes, that is 49 potential cuts (The rest should honestly just be lands- Maybe you could have a few slots for some nonland cards, but 30 lands just isn't enough). Now, if you're looking to actually improve the deck... That's a different matter. Me personally, however, I'd start here.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot- Reasons for these cuts! It's quite simple, really- All of these either are...

-Too situational

-Not impactful enough

-Cost too much

or they just simply aren't fit for Duel Commander.

Thanks for the feedback! Well, I'm really looking at winning by beating with the weenies, not by commander damage. I'm really tired of commander damage decks because they feel the same during play. I feel that most of your cuts are the best weenies available, or at least have direct replacements (which of course doesn't help with card count).

But then again, I have one third of cards to remove, so clearly some painful cuts will have to be made. I'll think about it during the week. Thanks again!
