Ominous Eclipse

Custom Cards forum

In honor of the solar eclipse that is scheduled to occur across the United States today, here is a card that captures that event. The name of this card actually originated from a fake spoiler that emerged during the Return to Ravncia block, one that I felt was too good to not resurrect for this card, so the results of my work are seen, below:

Ominous Eclipse Show

I am wondering about the mana cost of this card; is it too strict as it currently is? Would make more sense? What does everyone else think of this card?

I like strong cards but I think giving them a tough mana cost makes them fairer. I like it as it is. Plus multiple mana symbols in the casting cost adds so much flavor imho :)

I was thinking of creating a cycle of all the Ravnica guilds, with Boros being for example:

~ deals 5 damage to each creature. If a creature would die this way, exile it instead. For every creature exiled this way, you gain 3 life.

That's powerful all right. Now if you make it it becomes OP because easily splashable and less mana intensive.

Seems like it could be moved to . This is actually really interesting because it's a Wrath of God that you will never be able to take advantage of without other shenanigans, because with WoG you can just cast it and then a follow-up creature, but with this you can't.

Was the fake spoiler with the art of Merciless Eviction?

zephramtripp having a mass removal that also picks creatures from hands is definitely something you can take advantage of. It's basically what ruins every creature heavy strategy...you suspect a mass removal and hold back creatures so you can put pressure on the board after the wipe? Oh, let's destroy all AND have you discard the rest with one spell, and that for only 5 mana! All the while I keep all my noncreature cards in my hand, planeswalkers stay on the board as well...

Very strong board wipe. I think it is fairly well balanced, and if anything I would have made it 6 mana for how strong that effect is. Maybe I'm wrong.

During the blood moon in the northeast last year I wanted to make a blood moon based boardwipe (not based on Blood Moon). It ended up an interesting card, though I don't think balanced.

Blood Eclipse

Blood Eclipse deals x damage to each creature. If a creature dealt damage by blood Eclipse would die this turn, exile it instead. Each creature exiled by blood Eclipse deals x damage to its controller.

I'm unsure whether it would be to strong or not strong enough. I guess it would depend on the deck it was in

zephramtripp, I do not recall, since it has been too long since that set was released.
