New tribal idea

Custom Cards forum

So recently in the card creation challenge forum I was challenged to make a new tribe of creature and I came up with the planedrifters. What the planedrifters are, is a race of semi-physical beings that are not tied to the mortal plane of existence. (for any DnD players) instead, they can shift in and out of existence, from plane to plane.

What does this have to do with magic?

Well, how this shows in cards is that:

  • All planedrifters must be blue

  • All planedrifters must be illusions

  • All planedrifters must have an ability that returns them to their owners hand

For example:

Planedrifter War-Leader

Creature - Illusion soldier

~ enters the battlefield with X plus 1 +1/+1 Counters and X drift counters

Other Illusion creatures you control with a converted mana cost equal to the number of drift counters on ~ gets +1/+1 for each drift counter on ~

: Return ~ to your hand

What do you think of this tribe? maybe make some new cards and we can try get wizards of the coast to recognise a new possible tribe

To be a tribe in mtg, it shoud rather state its creatury type as a "Planedrifter Illusion" to be valid, but then it would'nt need to be an illusion if the lore states what it is. Cool idea thou. Remind me of a miniature Eldrazi.

Not particularly anyone, they just have an ability to move through planes, kind of like you described these Planedrifters do. But I got the feeling these arent so massive and posseses a mind with thoughts and stuff.

I think it needs to be a creature type to be tribal (although you saw tribes with similar abilities such as en-Kor creatures in magic, where abilities resonated).

But you also have to make sure they have abilities that align with their colors. For example, you rarely see elves doing very monoblue things.
