I've always wanted Ruric Thar, unbowed to be a Planeswalker.

I was thinkin something like:

2GR:

Loyalty: 4

+1: Until your next turn, whenever a player casts a non-creature spell, (this planeswalker) deals 3 damage to that player.

-2: Creatures you control get +1/+1, trample, and can only be blocked by 2 or more creatures.

-6: (this planeswalker) becomes a 6/6 creature with Indestructable and "Whenever this creature attacks, other creatures you control get +5/+5 and trample until the end of turn.

Alternatively, the -6 could be something like: You get an emblem that says "Creatures you control have: Tap: This creature fights target creature your opponent controls."

Thoughts on what flavor Ruric Thar could bring?

Edit: His -2 should read 'until end of turn.' I derped.

The -2 might be a bit strong, but it looks interesting overall. I might consider starting him at 3 loyalty just because it is rather strong ult for a 4 mana walker.

bigguy99: Also just noticed a mechanics fail. He can't get his ult at -6, as he'd die before he became a creature.

Let it be a lesson to WotC if they're watching: never have a planeswalker become a creature as the ult. Too many misplays will be had and it's also pretty shitty if you think about it - having an ult that doesn't make a big impact as soon as you can use it.

Ruric Thar, The Unyielding 3RG

Loyalty: 4

+1: Until your next turn, whenever a player casts a non-creature spell, Ruric Thar, The Unyielding deals 3 damage to that player.

-2: Creature spells you cast this turn cost 2 less to cast, Non-creature spells your opponents cast this turn cost 2 more to cast until the end of your turn.

-7: You get an emblem that says, "Creatures you control get +3/+0 and whenever a creatures enters the battlefield under your control it deals damage equal to it's power to target creature or player."

Just a thought. I like the idea of Ruric Thar as a planeswalker!

the -2 on that, Valentine35, feels too blue to be on a red/green planeswalker. i like the ult though

The +1 is a total nightmare to Control. You get this out, you basically win, so maybe consider bringing it down to 2 damage. Besides that I love it!

FAMOUSWATERMELON: The idea was to punish control a bit, but the card honestly might see a banning in modern if it was released like this. Control has a hard enough time as it is, and just 'playing value' is already stronger than being reactive. Although, Zoo'd be bonkers.

What do you guys think of a ramp-like ability?

i had an idea for a -2 that was: Add 1 mana of any color to your mana pool. This mana may only be spent to cast creature spells. If a creature spell was cast using this mana, it cannot be countered.

It's a cool ability, but while it's very green, it doesn't feel very 'Ruric Thar.' Also, that AND the +1 on the same walker takes him from being awesome, to me breaking out in hives whenever I see him. (I'm a control player)

Yeah i agree on my -2 it did feel very blue after i wrote it out. I was just trying to think of something that disables non creature stuff and enables creatures to be put out. I like the ramp idea, but youre right it doesnt seem very Ruric Thar. Dammit now i want WotC to make a Ruric Thar PW! lol.

slovakattack Yeah, that -2 doesn't really fit with the smash-everything kind of mood Ruric Thar reminds me of.
