If Team RWBY Could Planeswalk...

Custom Cards forum

I had some free time on my hands, so I decided to make Team RWBY (from RoosterTeeth's show "RWBY") into Planeswalkers. Colors were pretty easy (Ruby is obviously red, Blake black, Weiss White, and Boros seemed a good fit for Yang). I tried to make the abilities reflect the characters as well as meshing well with established MTG guidelines and being at least moderately playable. I would love any feedback!

Ruby: Went with a haste theme to mimic Ruby's speed.

Ruby Rose

Weiss: The abilities here all stem from Weiss' glyphs and dust.

Weiss Schnee

Blake: Decided to go in a knowledge (Blake is always reading) and defense (Blake's semblance) theme.

Blake Belladonna

Yang: Power and getting stronger from being hit basically sum up Yang in a fight.

Yang Xiao Long

Thanks for looking!

RIP Monty Oum.

But I honestly think that no member of Team RWBY is without some version of white, so Blake would be Esper (reflecting her more blue leanings), Yang R/W, Wiess W/B (because she's kinda selfish at heart, something that black is all about) and Ruby also R/W. That's my own 2 cents, seeing as the whole point of that team is that they are there to protect the world.

Also, I do like how you gave Blake the Bob ability as her minus, as it is actually depicted in the show.

BTW, Yang's a bit OP. Her plus should only target 1 creature, even for 6 mana. There's a reason why Vigor's so damn good.

I think that Ruby's +1 is really, really, really good. Other than that the cards are sweet!

@JA14732: To your comment on colors, I both agree and disagree. It is true that they do not fit perfectly into the color identities (I.E. - Ruby isn't as chaotic/aggressive as mono-red) but I wanted at least most of them to be one color. As to Yang's +1, I do think target creature would be more balanced now that I look at it again.

@JakeHarlow: Thanks!

@awesomeguy37: I was wondering if that might be slightly OP. Would taking out the dividing part balance it a little bit? (Ruby Rose deals 2 damage to target creature or player.) Or do you think it is OK, just really powerful?

You are my new favorite person.

First of all, can we please have that Ruby card as an actual Planeswalker? Red needs something that's actually playable. You know, besides Sarkhan the new.

Second, I'm a huge fan of Blake. I like that the ult, though strong and almost unavoidable due to the +1, isn't too broken, since it only tutors one card, so to combo out you need to have already found the other pieces. I like that her -1 helps you find said pieces. I think she might be a bit under costed? Maybe 1BU might fit her a bit better? Or one BB.

Yang might be a touch too strong though... As much as I like the concept, destroying creatures while potentially buffing herself up is a bit much. Maybe instead, make it something like +0: Choose a target creature. Until your next turn, any time that creature deals damage, prevent that damage, and put that many loyalty counters on ~ instead.

That has a similar effect (making a creature somewhat useless for the opponent) while not being OP.

There's a user on MSE who's doing a RWBY set. I think they stopped it mid progress though.
