Custom Cards forum

Ok, not exactly a "custom card", but tonight earned me a trip to the local ER and I became the proud recipient of a tetanus shot.
What if MtG creatures and/or players could catch "diseases"? I mean...here is the concept:
"Brutal Disease Name" 1BB
Enchantment - Disease
Place an infection counter on enchanted creature. During your upkeep choose another creature you control at random and place an "infection" counter on that creature.
Creatures with "infection" counters cannot use activated abilities.
Or maybe...
"Rabies like Disease" 2RR
Enchantment Player - Disease
Creatures controlled by enchanted player gain haste and must attack each turn if able.
This brings up other mechanics, too, like maybe some creatures have "tap to "cure" target creature with an "infection" counter (remove the counter). Or "Sacrifice the creature to destroy target "disease".
What do you think? Maybe flesh this out a bit more? I can definitely see this concept on some, sick, twisted plane.

I'm not really sure, and i don't have any ideas, but It would involve creature stealing, creatures that get weaker and hurt the owner, or just a friggin 4 cost elesh norn

First of all, if Elesh Norn cost 4 mana instead of 7, that would be broken.
Second, I like this concept. Needs to be worked on a bit more, but I could see it in a set where Infect is very prominent. There might even be a way to give poison counters to creatures. I don't know, but the idea of weakening creatures via "disease" instead of outright killing them seems very interesting.

That's kinda what wither was :P
On the other hand, i don't think a disease mechanic is impossible.if maybe needs a new name. I don't think it'd be good to break the 4th wall with things that cause death and misery. Along the same lines why it took them until Theros to reprint Wrath of God (due to not wanting to reference religion)

Ebola
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature not enchanted with a card named "Ebola".
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a -1/-1 counter on enchanted creature and put an enchantment token that's a copy of Ebola onto the battlefield. Attach it to a creature chosen at random.
Enchanted creature can't attack or block, and it's activated abilities can't be activated.

Or i took it to seriously :) My bad. Half awake comments

MagicalHacker...That's seems worded better and less clunky.
VampireArmy, I'm not sure I totally understand your comment. The bit about breaking the 4th wall and how it's connected to printing religious cards?

Oh that was in accordance with a statement wotc have about making cards that reference real life things. Before theros, wrath of God was a more literal reference to well...God hence why they were sort of reluctant to reprint it.

I think something like anti-modular would be cool here.
Something along the lines of:
"Sickness name" 1: When this creature dies, move 1 -1/-1 counter from it to another target creature.
Then a few cards have mechanics that enable -1 counter shenanigans, like "Creatures with -1/-1 counters get an additional -1/-1 counter at the beginning of their controller's upkeep", or bring back proliferate in that same set. You could also introduce sickness enablers, like infect creatures, that enter with X -1/-1 counters on them that have the anti-modular mechanic.
Example:
"Buddy guy the sick"
Creature - Sick Bro
Sickness Mechanic 3 (When this creature dies, move 3 -1/-1 counters from it to any number of target creatures.)
When ~ Enters the Battlefield, put a -1/-1 counter on it.
At the beginning of each upkeep, put a -1/-1 counter on each creature with a -1/-1 counter on it.

Oh, I get it VampireArmy. Thatbsaid, I had a long discussion via TO about Wrath of God and how no matter what picture you stamp on it the wording automatically references God...big G. I can see why they would try to reprint it post Theros though and stamp Heliod on it.
ThatBlueMage, that's a cool way to look at it. It needs some work, but I really think it's a possible.mechanic or theme once fleshed out. I mean...it's ts not too bad for 2 am post ER ramblings at least. Haha

I think this might be cooler than the aura, and easier to understand, but is it too wordy?
Ebola
Enchantment
When Ebola enters the battlefield, put a -1/-1 counter on each creature you control with an infection counter on it and put an infection counter on target creature. It can't attack or block and loses all abilities for as long as it has an infection counter on it.
At the beginning of each end step, exile Ebola.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, if that player controls a creature with an infection counter on it, return Ebola to the battlefield under his or her control.

No, too "pox"y. also, it would be way too much trouble to actually make. I could see something similar to diseases when phyrexia gets back, but it won't be like this...
