Custom Mechanic for a set

Custom Cards forum

Hi guys, new to the Custom Cards forum.

I'm working on a mechanic for my set (currently un-named). One of the groups/tribes/clans/etc. are a wealthy, royal-esque group. I'm still undecided on colour but leaning towards Bant colours.

The new ability they have is called Charity. It currently reads:

Charity (At the beginning of your upkeep, you may pay G/W/U. If you do, put a -1/-1 counter on this creature and a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control.)

I was wondering if this as a mechanic would be viable/interesting? A lot of the stronger cards have effects tied into removing -1/-1 counters for buffs/abilities and so on. I'm fine to change color/reword/rename and so on, it was just a new idea that popped into my head. Thanks!

Sounds pretty neat.

Eh. Having to pay to weaken your creature is pretty lackluster. Most keywords would just use a limited window of opportunity instead of payments. Look at graft, for example: Helium Squirter

Epochalyptik - would you say to change the effect to make it so you don't have to pay, maybe? The idea is that they boost other creatures through gifts of their wealth as such. I thought counters would be an interesting representation of this unless I maybe made an individual counter for it?

Unless there's a good reason to make a new kind of counter, avoid doing so.

And yes, I think it would be fine to keep it a triggered ability, remove the associated cost, and just make the transfer optional.

I'd need to see some cards to see if this is good.

But it seems good right now.

Maybe make it trigger on another creature attacking?
