We(in our playgroup) have been talking about making some custom commanders just to play for fun. then we would put it up to the group to make sure they aren't too strong.

I just wanted to post mine quick and see what people think.

Link brings us to a browsing page. After inspecting, I found your link and removed the "preview?" (and then "img=") from the link to see if it worked. Both times, a 404 saying the page/card was removed. Mind relinking, and doing the page of the custom card, rather than a preview image?

Currently:

Bear Shaman
Forestwalk
Bears you control get +1/+1.
, : Create a 2/2 green bear token.
Whenever a bear creature enters the battlefield, you may pay and search your library for a bear creature. Reveal it and put it into your hand.

I reworded it so it made sense. And for 5 CMC, a 4/6 that has endless tutoring value, it's safe to say that this guy is a bit too strong.


Here is my take on the card.

~
Bear Shaman
Other bear creatures you control get +1/+1.
At the beginning of your upkeep, choose one:

  • Bears you control gain forestwalk until end of turn.
  • Whenever ~ attacks this turn, you may pay to create a 2/2 bear creature token that's tapped and attacking.
  • Until end of turn, ~ gains ", : Search your library for a bear creature card. Reveal it and put it into your hand.

    regardless of what you do, you should change the bear buff to be "other bears". if you wanted it to be stronger due to the buff you should just buff its base stats by 1.

    I think you are doing ok with what you have but I think you could make it a little more flexible. Since "Bear" has become synonymous with vanilla 2/2 creatures you could try something like this:

    Bear Shaman

    Creatures you control with no abilities get +2/+2.

    Whenever you cast a creature with no abilities you may have that creature fight target creature an opponent controls.


    It doesn't make tokens but its basically Muraganda Petroglyphs on a stick. Its second ability would make playing all those ability challenged creatures a little more viable. Just my take on it. Seems like a fun concept either way. Who doesn't love bears?

    @Eiti3 i see what you are saying. I did mean to make it OTHER bear creatures. In terms of a bear tutor, i mean, it just seems a bit weak there aren't many bears the way it is, let alone any necessarily good ones, that's why i deemed it fair. But your rework seems like it would be pretty fun as well.

    @LittleBlueHero That is a really interesting idea, i really like it! Could be fun in our group.
