4 Color General Challenge

Custom Cards forum

Posted on May 23, 2015, 9 p.m. by The Doctor

Hello everyone!

Alright. So. Seeing as there are no 4 color generals available to us, I'd like to see what you guys can come up with.

Rules

1) Cannot be stupid broken. That's pointless.

2) Must fit the colors as best as possible. I recommend looking up what each color stands for if you need a reference.

2.5) Please try to find artwork as a reference if possible. DeviantArt is a great place for this.

Can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Krysis literally just started a thread about this XD

This is awkward.

I mean, he designed some, but it's not a challenge thread.

No, of course not. I was just pointing out that this seems to be a recurring theme. Much like the custom walkers was a couple weeks back.

Anyways, I should probably give it a shot. Give me a few minutes.

Guess I'll post my older quad color general card I made a while back. People are half and half about his power level it seems, but I just like how the two separate guilds had this combo in his colors. Also got a taste of anti-green with the pro creatures and all. I might make another one some time later.

Really for me the only thing on him that seems OP is the second ability, because it can technically be done infinitly.

Alright, MTG Cardsmith is not cooperating, so I will have to do this this way.

Mescanica, It Who Sees All -

Legendary Artifact Creature - Eye

Permanents you control are artifacts in addition to their other types. They have "3, sacrifice this artifact: search target player's library for a card and exile it. That player shuffles his library."

As long as you control ten or more artifacts, Mescanica has "Sacrifice ten artifacts: Search target player's library for two cards and exile them. Until end of turn, you may cast them without paying their mana cost."

1/3

Any good? I sorta fell in love with the art...

It's really interesting, plays well with a theme, but I feel like it would be either colorless, or all five colors.

That art really is nice, though.

I sorta just went with the colors that play well with artifacts... Green usually destroys them. And the art is sooooo nice :)

That eye needs to have Phyrexian Vatmother or Phyrexian Delver in it. Still bad ass though

By the time you can do it infinitely you'd have infinite mana anyways. Though if you meant as if a creature could tap for that much mana, then yeah that could become a problem...but a number of creatures tapping for six mana in ANTI-GREEN is pretty absurd. So with a lot of stuff being taken into account, I think it can be alright. But yeah, people are really iffy on his design.

Also Mescanica seems pretty OP with the amount of control you can do. In artifacts you would have easy colorless mana to just spam that first ability, and that second ability is a nightmare to play against. Play artifact tokens and you can probably get this ability to trigger every turn late game. I mean it still balances out with the way you need 10 artifacts to do it, but still can be hard to deal with. Maybe I'm just seeing the card wrong but I'd definitely not want to play against that commander.

Now I made another commander to try out new concepts and immediately wanted to do anti-green one again and have it based on artifacts...but didn't notice that he kinda already did that, so to not look like I just steal ideas all the time, I just made it primarily an artifact creature.

Artifacts against the green. Azorious flicker and enter with Rakdos destruction and leaving. Prolly not good either way...

I don't think this is overpowered...

Vez D'Lan, Soul Eater

Thoughts?

Yangayu, the Obeyed

I think this is really interesting.

So, because of the all the hybrid symbols in the casting cost, it can be played in any of the following combinations: Golgari, Simic, Orzhov, Bant, Abzan, Esper, Sultai, and finally, Not-Red.

I think it might be a little pushed, but oh well, I tried.

It honestly feels like a planeswalker...

FAMOUSWATERMELON: Like a broken planeswalker? Or a balanced one.

I think if it feels like a planeswalker it's fine, considering we have legitimate planeswalker generals now.

I like the idea of a four color general having possibilities of being ran as different colors other than strictly the four colors, but his abilities do feel a bit forced to have this be a possibility. The multiple hybrid symbols in the rules text alone makes it not very appealing to look at. At least Figure of Destiny had them all the same color and made a nice slope out of the design. Maybe just try having four abilities where each one is a single color?
