Who is the STRANGEST commander ever?!?

Commander (EDH) forum

Posted on July 19, 2015, 5:06 p.m. by thegigibeast

I am bored of all the decks running the same usual commanders at my local store such as Kaliaa of the Vast and so on, so I am asking myself, what would be a strange, completely different commander/startegy I could build around to show the world some creativity?

Please note I consider myself "good" at deckbuilding. I would also like the suggestions (if there are any) to stay budget. Thanks!

Hands down Mishra, Artificer Prodigy. The hardest one to build but the most fun to play. Either that or Melek, Izzet Paragon Chaos build. None of that doubling spell stuff, screw up that boardstate.

@TheGrayMerchant

Now working on a Sol'kanar the Swamp King deck, gonna update you when done!

Phelddagrif can make for extremely interesting and fun games, if you play the deck right.

Lu Xun, Scholar General can also be interesting and strange. The horsemanship on a 1/3 is pretty derpy.

@Coinman1863

Already played against Mishra, Artificer Prodigy when I was new to EDH. I did not understood how it works at that time, but now I know how strong it can be!

@buildingadeck

After the Sol'kanar the Swamp King is done, I am totally going to do an aggro EDH mono-blue deck with Sun Quan, Lord of Wu instead of Lu Xun, Scholar General. That is gonna be so awesome!!!

My current favourite commander is Shattergang Brothers. When I first introduced my deck in my LGS, everyone was like "Hmm, that's quite nasty. But as long as you have to sac, too..."

Now it's like "He's playing the Brothers, kill him!"

Make Dragonlord Kolaghan work as a commander and I will feature the hell out of the deck.

Chandler definitely fits for 'Strangest Commander.' I'm not sure he's really worth building around, but he and Joven are some extremely random Homelands Common Legends.

69 corresponds to dimir control Grimgrin, Corpse-Born. Here's a sample deck: MagicalHacker - Grimgrin, Corpse-Born.

Want another? Give me another number :)

Karn, Silver Golem or Bosh, Iron Golem. It takes balls and serious skill to build a colorless EDH deck.

Coinman1863 says... #18

Well, Bosh, Iron Golem I believe is considered red for commander purposes because of the red activation cost on the card.

Is Chandler intended to be a Friends reference?

Unusual playable Legends?

Some of my votes. There's also a ton of weird mono color legends, some of which are pretty funny like the ones mentioned above.

Starke of Rath.

I'm currently planning on building a Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs chaos deck, but it's still in the "random card gathering" phase.

The problem I have with most commanders is that the "build around" seems too straight forward.

Build around Lady Orca and you're my hero. :P

Hey guyz, thanks for all those answers!!! Sorry for not being connected more often!

I will try to build a deck with as most suggestions possible and tag your name after that if it was your suggestion!!!

Thanks again!

Brothers Yamazaki is the strangest commander, in my opinion.

You and someone else in your group both build decks with it and play on a team without telling anyone. The low power level of each deck means your opponents shouldn't mind you guys teaming up all the time.

Hey all, I just got an idea of my own: Vaevictis Asmadi. I never heard of him before, and he seems to be able to reach the 21 damage pretty easily. Gonna update you all!

Hello again! I now need your help to complete my Vaevictis Asmadi EDH deck! Here is a link to it, don't be afraid to +1 to make everyone else see this deck and comment to suggest cards!

Gorgosaurusrex: this is actually a really baller idea :D

RussischerZar It's a blast to play, especially with cards like Bazaar Trader and Hunted Dragon. It's not a good deck but it's cheap to build and is something different!
