I have a Zurgo Helmsmasher voltron deck but I was wondering who is the best voltron commander? I'm excited to hear everyone's answers and who their general's are

I like Zurgo the best. There is a case for... I want to say that bant one, of the many, with double trike. I also like Bruna, Light of Alabaster because auras are underrated.

Right now my best two three volt Ron commanders that I own are. Atarka, iroas, Multani, Maro-Sorcerer

To build voltron deck meant to make your commander huge and hard to kill. Atarka, World Render works great for exactly what people think when they think voltron and by himself he is a 2 turn clock, but the top tier commander for this strategy would be Uril, the Miststalker.. now Multani, Maro-Sorcerer is a different direction you can take for he is almost always huge and has shroud. There's nothing else much need to make him great... and iroas, and all the high power Gods with support anthem effect make good voltron. Iroas is the best at this cause the evasion red provides extra combat phases.

Skittles is an underrated but IMO superb option.

Kemba, Kha Regent can also work if you want to add some token synergies.

Also, clayperce, how do you link to a card but have the text show up as something different?

Zur the Enchanter is best imo. He is really hard to beat.

Narset, Enlightened Master is another one. She focuses on extra turns and combat steps in order to beef herself up and kill people via Voltron damage.

I would say that those two are best. Uril, the Miststalker can be fun to play but he simply falls far lower than the two I mentioned in effectiveness.

The others mentioned, I'm going to be honest with you, I've never seen win a game.

Personally I really like Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief as a voltron commander. Basically you just need a bunch of ramp and she does the rest for you. Not to mention the built in removal is really nice.

Thraximundar is a fun Voltron Control Commander, albeit not the most competitive. He works well in a Zombie Tribal Voltron style deck. Better in 1v1 than Multiplayer but he is fun regardless. The added bonus is that he can run a good Control package to keep your game plan on track.

Run lots of anthem effects, Zombies are one of the most supported tribes. Then Thrax gets his own counters, while playing a nice Control game. He is actually a lot of fun to pilot.

I can help you with card choices for any of the Commanders I've mentioned.

Promokratis is a fun voltron commander to use. Either block with all your creatures or die. Plus he had built in protection and evasion. To punch a player, simply tap one of their many creatures with Mind Games or something.

Without a doubt, the best voltron general is Zur the Enchanter. I personally prefer him in a hyper-tuned Ad Nauseam list, but that's just me. Few agree based on lists I've seen.

TheDevicer I can't agree with you more. Personally I believe Voltron Zur is best in a 1v1 scenario while Combo is better in Multiplayer.

I think that is another issue though, typically it seems, Voltron is just a better strategy in 1v1, it's harder to pull off in Multiplayer, but if any Commander is going to do it, it's Zur.

In multiplayer, a decent strategy to utilize is something like Geist of Saint Traft because of his built-in protection. If you combine him with Cataclysm, Balancing Act, Armageddon, and other such effects, it can be difficult for decks that rely on permanents to get on board in a meaningful way. Still, the deck's not fast and can't run too many voltron pieces.

Sigarda, Host of Herons with a Darksteel Plate is a good start. Now she can't be sacrificed, has hexproof and indestructible and evasion. Add any anthem or good auras: Bear Umbra, Shield of the Oversoul (the indestructible is redundant but the pump is what you want), etc... and maybe some form of trample: ie Nylea, God of the Hunt...now you have a huge beater than they are going to have a hard time dealing with. The only way is to get rid of your indestructible enablers (if it's Plate, they have to exile, which is rarer to come up) and then board wipe. Basically the only single cards that can beat the board are: Terminus, Merciless Eviction, and Descend upon the Sinful (there could be more, but I can't think of them).

UpperDeckerTaco: Cyclonic Rift says hi :P

That being said, that's just Cyclonic Rift for you.

Evacuation, Black Sun's Zenith, Whelming Wave and friends all say hi along with Cyclonic Rift.

Meh, it's just blue decks, but typically, you're playing green, so you can ramp out fast or have enough to recast, they're just delaying the inevitable. Also, they will be attacked first and dead first for playing blue. ;)

Arcane Lighthouse isn't THAT uncommon and is a great counter to Sigarda, Host of Herons. That isn't to say what you just mentioned isn't good advice UpperDeckerTaco. I would just suggest if you're running her, you will want to run Strip Mine, Wasteland, and Enchantment/Artifact hate. That hate will be ran for stuff like Glaring Spotlight and Bonds of Mortality. Sigarda's biggest issue I believe is the fact that she isn't in Blue and thus has a harder time defending herself. The same goes for any Voltron Commander than isn't in Blue.

I guess your idea on Blue is a local meta thing. In my personal experience, almost everybody runs Blue. I like to run Blue and if I'm not, I still run stuff like Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast in my Kaalia of the Vast deck for protection. Blue is EVERYWHERE!!

Yeah I know. Those are all circumstantial pieces. Nothing in EDH is non-disruptable. But the resiliency of Sigarda being able to be cast turn 3 and with the Artifact and creature tutors in GW, it can consistently find the pieces you need. Another way with dealing with spells like that is just to play Gaddock Teeg, and of course Wasteland and Strip Mine but those should basically be auto-includes.

Raging_Squiggle who even plays that card lmao. I have yet to see it see play

September 7, 2016 3:46 a.m.

Lol I've seen it once since its release. And it didn't even resolve. It is an interesting card though that would hit everyone out of left field were it actually played. It's about as scoop-worthy as a Scrambleverse in my book.

September 7, 2016 3:49 a.m.

I've had a lot of success with my Sigarda and Bruna voltron decks. Bruna is slightly more competitive thanks to counterspells and certain tutors but Sigarda survives Ugin wipes better, so it depends on your opposition. Zur is also good, but you generally get hated off the table in multiplayer games if you're not prepared for a game of archenemy.

Thrun, the Last Troll is a pick very few people consider. It doesn't take much to grow him to dangerous levels and he does a ton to protect himself. Put him into an anti-control goodstuff shell and you'll be ok against a surprising amount of decks.

All in all, there are lots of ok options for voltron, but the archetype is pretty meh when compared to combo or more goodstuff oriented strategies.
