Commander (EDH) forum

I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to EDH. I've never played a game and would like to change that eventually. It seems like an awesome format and many others are starting to really get into it. I just don't know where to begin.

I bought a commander deck, changed a few cards, but of course not knowing what to do to make it good, is a problem. ANY and ALL suggestions would be appreciated, though i would like to keep it on a budget.

Define budget.

well the deck is currently priced at 105. I'm thinking max of another 50 unless I can trade for the cards. I don't want to spend money on the deck. If I have the card already great. If I can trade for it thats fine too. Feel free to suggest, but if we start talking 20 bucks a card then probably not. 10 is iffy, I can handle $5 for a card that must go in. I guess the last comment is more of a disclaimer saying that I would like help and welcome all suggestions, but may not take all of them due to budget. If I agree completely that its worth putting in then I can always see if I can trade for it.

card:Volrath's Stronghold is arguably the only $20 card Kaalia could absolutely use.

Blinding Angel works really well with Kaalia. I also like putting Adarkar Valkyrie with her, as she has a particularly fun ability. She lets you get in a free swing with Rakdos the Defiler which can end the game if timed right.

Outside of fun things to drop, Austere Command is a great selectable boardwipe. card:Black Sun's Zenith can be tuned to kill what you want, while leaving your big angels/demons/dragons behind.

I would have to say you chose a pretty bad commander to build a budget deck on. But you could use the new dragon in innistrad, there's Rakdos the Defiler , Iona, Shield of Emeria can shut down mono colored edh decks, there's also the Phyrexian Arena demon from innistrad...and Phyrexian Arena itself. best suggestion would be to look at other kaalia decks and some sort of card search engine, you can find some pretty good demons, dragons, and angels (that can be dirt cheap too).

take a look at deck:kaalia-multiplayer-edh this is my build that works extremely consistently IRL and like Epochalyptik says the only money card really is the card:Volrath's Stronghold the rest is just demons and angels that are rather inexpensive these days and some kill spells. should be pretty easy and cheap for you to make a deck for a low budget mate.

Thanks for the advice everyone. It has definitely been helpful so far. I've made some additions to the deck and have gone through and looked at other Kaalia decks and gotten some thoughts there. It is starting to shape up. I'm in the process of picking up a volrath's stronghold. It definitely feels like a fast paced deck, so I'm curious to see how it plays out in an actual mutliplayer EDH game. I guess I'll have to find a game or have a pickup game at the next FNM I go to.

mate it is super threatening and scary in multiplayer i very rarely lose with mine make sure you have lotsa draw n haste though or u will grind to a depressing halt fast! and make sure you can tutor for the wraths and specific demons that come with wraths that wil see you winning nicely
