Torn between goblin commanders

Commander (EDH) forum

With the spoiling of Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, I now have more motivation to play EDH goblins. The question is this: Between Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, Grenzo, Dungeon Warden, and Krenko, Mob Boss, who would be the best goblin commander? Let me know so I can get to brewing! Thanks!

I believe that Aggro is the only option for Mono Red and Krenko, Mob Boss does it best.

Personally I've been testing Purphoros, God of the Forge leading my Krenko deck. It seems to be working great due to the number of ways to actually Tutor Krenko.

So imo, Purphoros.

Krenko, Mob Boss is the best tested Goblin commander if we're just choosing from these 3. He's got the best synergies, he makes more Goblins for you to mess with than either Grenzo. He's also a constantly re-castable Endless Ranks of the Dead for Goblins.

Otherwise, Grenzo, Dungeon Warden does better reanimating non-goblin targets, as they have higher individual value, While Grenzo, Havoc Raiser doesn't really care what kind of creature is hitting your opponent.

If you want to go two-color however, Wort, Boggart Auntie could do the trick for a R/B Goblins list far better than Grenzo.

Errast has a point.

It has been my personal experience though that only Krenko has any value unless you are playing at the lowest tiers of casual gameplay.

Krenko has the speed to swarm higher tier decks, and alternate win conditions through direct damage. I feel as though he is the only viable Commander choice when you are trying to be more competitive.

Also trying to add another color really seems to cut down on the effectiveness of the deck. Stick with Mono if you are trying to be competitive.

I run a Wort, Boggart Auntie deck mostly because I like to draw cards.

I think the only proven deck for red goblins is Krenko, Mob Boss is aggro, and you can do damage for creatures entering the battlefield, its a proven winner.

i play old Grenzo and the guy is amazing. He can combo, he can recover from wraths, and he is a great mana sink. He also likes having all the other potential commander's in his deck, allowing you to have all sorts of fun. Purphoros (one of the unofficial goblin commanders) is pretty sick, as is Krenko. But both die pretty hard without their namesakes I feel. Same for new Grenzo. Old Grenzo can also be pretty big, so commander damage is more real too. Plus black has tutor's, wraths and removal that are just better than red.

@ Crayfish Krenko is best IMO. He's the reason I run Volcanic Fallout fairly often.

If you play Shattergang Brothers goblin tribal you can splash for a few good mana symbol g or mana symbol b cards.

Old grenzo is amazing with Doomsday you will often be able to win with a kiki jiki combo for example

They're different. Krenko is probably the strongest but he's actually not at his best as an aggro commander. He is a combo machine who wants to go infinite in one way or another. The Worts are better for a more value-oriented strategy.
