Thoughts on this general?

I was thinking of using this card for a general I want to know what everyones feeback is.. i am not sure how to link cards anymore.. LOL if someone could link it for me i would appericate it

Trostani, Selesnya's Voice

My reasoning behind this general is the reasonable CMC and her ability allows me to gain life when another creature enters the battle field under my control. Since i am thinking to make sure i am able to Populate many creature tokens with my deck i will be able to gain alot of life quiet fast. I normally wouldnt have considered it but then i thought tokens are called "Creature" tokens. and the card specifies "creature".

Thoughts?

card:Trostani, Selesnya's Voice. Double brackets.

I think the three biggest questions we have to ask are:

1) What is your playstyle?

2) What is your meta like? Is it casual, competitive, etc.?

3) What is your budget?

I think she would make a better addition to a Doran, the Siege Tower deck rather than a a standalone general seeing as then she's a "5/5" and all you care about is toughness anyway.

Trostani is pretty good as a general if you're building some kinda Selesnya token deck. Her CMC of 4 isn't bad, but populate doesn't make much of a difference if you're not making much use of creature tokens, and her life-gain ability isn't such an amazing ability without being able to create creatures every turn. Without the tokens, Trostani isn't as amazing, and seeing as how populate on it's own doesn't just create token creatures out of nothing, you'd need some method of making tokens, be it Dual Nature , Doubling Season , Parallel Lives , Feed the Pack , any of the many white token generators from the last several sets.

Like Epochalyptik says, Trostani isn't gonna be great as a general for everybody. If you're playing aggro or swarm, Trostani herself will probably be cheap, but you'll want some cards that aren't going to be cheap. Things like Life from the Loam , Doubling Season , Eternal Witness , Savannah , etcetera, will make playing Trostani somewhat expensive. I like her as a general, but I have a lot of greenwhite token stuff, and I don't play much competitive to make it a concern to play with her as a general. My current idea, if you'd like some pointers for Commander, is to go green Elves, white Soldiers and her as my general.

Here is a smattering of ideas. You'd likely want to be more organized than this, but who knows- pure swarm could work. Quick Trostani Draft. You should definitely figure out the answers to Epochalyptik's questions, then go from there.

UlamogsGyre has a pretty good idea there too. One cool thing to consider if you play with creatures that enter the battlefield and create tokens when they do, is card:Conjurer's Closet, and card:Cathars' Crusade might really be worth a slot as well. Personally, while I like Trostani as a swarm creature, I think that a better general for that purpose is Rhys the Redeemed , but he is definitely improved with Trostani.

If you're playing in a competitive meta, I would advise against using Trostani. The abilities just aren't relevant or powerful enough to handle those kinds of decks.

For reference, this is what I think of when you say competitive: Dominus - Dreamcrusher Edition. Combo-control and play-to-win approaches are characteristic of competitive metas and generals like Zur the Enchanter and Arcum Dagsson are also common.

If you want to be competitive to the extreme, just play an ad nauseum deck. Wins t1-2 consistently :-). You'd be no fun, of course, but you'd win probably.
