The worst commanders, ever?
Commander (EDH) forum

I want to find the worst commander, ignoring what colors they bring to the table but rather, but what they do as a creatures themselves.
So far, I got Lady Orca , a 7/4 vanilla legendary for 7 mana.
@landgrafb Now that I think about it, Phage the Untouchable is even bad in any commander deck because of the likes of Clone , not to mention Reanimation.
That's more terrible than I had realized.

I forget the exact cards required, but Mishra, Artificer Prodigy has several Storm combos that can be built into his deck. He's not a good general for a normal deck, but in his niche he's super broken.

heuertag with Confusion in the Ranks , Norin the Wary can be used to trade creatures with your opponent. give them norin, take their creatures. it's quite fun and decent in the right deck. (again another to build around).

There is some prety broken Norin the Wary decks out there.
I don't think there can be any bad commander. If you think a commander is bad, you're just not wise enough to find a way to make it broken.
I personaly am not wise enough to find any use to some of those old legend commander and those awfull homeland uncommon commander.

I think 'worst commander' goes to the set, legends, over costed vanilla creatures (there were a few).

Oh right. A slightly worse one is probably: Sivitri Scarzam , 7 mana for 6/4.

Haakon, Stromgald Scourge . You can't cast him and you can only play one colour.

In terms of unplayability, Haakon, Stromgald Scourge takes the cake. Even the over costed vanilla legends like Lady Orca can be built into a fun, theme based deck. There is an awesome theme deck from Top and Go using Jasmine Boreal as a commander.

At least there are ways to cast Phage the Untouchable ( Torpor Orb , Trickbind ), and Mishra, Artificer Prodigy would be fun in a deck that you can guarantee getting Possibility Storm into play with.
You could choose to put Haakon, Stromgald Scourge into the graveyard instead of the command zone whenever you had the chance to, but when would you have the chance to? I can't think of a way to even cast him. Maybe someone else has one.

Just to clarify, as soon as I read my comment: Trickbind doesn't work in a Phage deck where she's your commander. I was meaning generally. Torpor Orb still works.

Brothers Yamazaki sucks as a Commander. No Clone effects in mono red, to my knowledge.

Kokusho, the Evening Star . Not only is it banned from being a commander (and thus a very bad commander to play), he really isn't strong enough to be banned in the first place.

Kokusho, the Evening Star really needs Blue to make it become as powerful as possible. Because a kicked Rite of Replication on it is hilarious and evil. Which is why Vela the Night-Clad shall always be the most evil of all Commanders.

@OP - Most of the stuff from the Legends set are bad for being a commander. The premise was just to make a bunch of legendary creatures. Sure, there are some real winners (Adun Oakenshield ?), but there were also a ton of uncommons that just weren't special other than their name. There's a pretty long list of all of the vanilla commanders from that set.
As far a worst, someone posted Haakon, Stromgald Scourge , and I like that call. I have no idea how you'd cast him...

Brothers Yamazaki got way more interesting with the new Legend rule. Just think about it.

Still does not work as a commander, you need to have acces to blue to make yourself a clone... And you can't have both copies of Brothers Yamazaki in your deck.... Still a pain even after rule changes

A lot of playgroups let you make a 98 card deck with both brothers in the command zone. They each count as your commander, so the commander tax applies to both of them as if they were the same card.
You still have to cast them separately, though, so you don't get an advantage. All fair and good.

bad way to get around phage could be Lich's Mirror but Platinum Angel is probably the better way to go. I actually saw a pretty cool theme deck using Ramirez DePietro . Its actually floating around here somewhere.

Seeing that my Norin the Wary deck is my favorite, I take offense to people saying he's useless!

Yomiji, Who Bars the Way 7 mana for a 4/4 who gives everyone at the table but you an advantage.
August 13, 2013 2:27 p.m.
well think about it this way. If you run a legendary heavy deck it could help you out.

Wow, where did this thread get reincarnated from?
Tuktuk the Explorer could be a good general. You can choose to put him in your graveyard, ditch your graveyard to put him back in the command zone, then play him again, and keep getting big tokens. Might be some good combos there.

I could see Tuktuk the Explorer doing some good. I dont know if anything from theros would be a horid commander.

To be fair, if you show up to an EDH game with the two arts of Brothers Yamazaki as your generals, I'll play with you. Because that's just style points right there. If they're the same art, though, GET OUT.

Brothers Yamazaki make a really good THG deck for commander.

@Bobgalarneau - Just to point out i have seen some neat Brothers Yamazaki decks used as a twin-headed giant- commander

If you don't try to build around her restriction: Phage the Untouchable
