The Under-$100 commander challenge

Commander (EDH) forum

Our local game has a wide variety of economic backgrounds interested in fun interactive commander games. To support this, we have a sub-$100 commander league going. To get started, everyone playing registers their decklists on tappedout.

On gamedays, the TCGPlayer value of your deck is checked, and as long as you're under $100, you're good to play. If you have to make some last minute changes due to price spikes, you have a few minutes available.

I highly recommend this to any groups looking for interactive games which are on a budget, but still want a little power. My current three decks are http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zendikar-episode-6-return-of-the-ally-100/, http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/jeleva-the-winning-workhorse-100/, and http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/simic-stunts-100/.

Take a look and let me know your thoughts!

Sometimes TCG player is wrong, a Collected Company is $10 at my LGS

That looks really cool. I have a few decks that I've created that are around $60 or less that I'd love to be able to pilot in a tournament like this. I have them all in a folder.

Folder.

My Warp World deck would go to town. Lol.

TCG player is sometimes wrong, but it's something universal that we can all agree on as a baseline. Not saying you actually spent $100 on the deck (that could go either way), just giving a baseline for price/power.

I like those decks canterlotguardian - they look great! Following your lead, I made a folder as well : http://tappedout.net/mtg-deck-folders/budget-commander-decks-2/.

Raging_Squiggle - I love the chaos of warp world, and it wouldn't be the only chaos deck there. What's your decklist? (only the card name tagged)

is my Warp World baby. It's not a chaos deck, it has a very defined and straightforward win condition.

I already have one, but it's not one of those "fun" decks.

Sounds like it would be hard. I assume that if you Foil the deck out, you just list nonfoils to keep the price lower?

Is the Commander included in that price? I would agree with such an idea if the Commander wasn't part of the $100. If it is, then no way, I wouldn't play.

Also note that the basic lands aren't included in the price on TappedOut. That's generally a few bucks added on, depending on the types of basic lands you have in the deck.

I have 2 somewhat competitive and very fun ones. The first one is political and versatile while the other is prison and tutoring.

Those are some great decks and great questions.

For our group, we all agree on using the tappedout TCGplayer mid number. This means that basic lands are all free, the commander does NOT count towards the deck price, and there is no requirement to mark your card as foiled.

Same with old or promos vs newer cards - go ahead and register with the cheapest set that your card was printed in, regardless of whether or not you have a more valuable version.
