The C16 Partners and a Cube

When the first few legendary creatures with partner were spoiled, I was excited to have so many options. Yet, as of today, I noticed that they sucked in comparison to the main generals (like Atraxa).

As someone who loved to be flexible, the prospect of having over 100 different combinations was amazing but the cards themselves (including Ludevic and Ishai who are making me think twice) seemed lackluster and I lost the hype on these guys after today's spoilers (save Ravos).

Even with the lackluster legends, is the idea of having a Cube with all 15 Partner legendaries worth the time and effort? Should I even bother?

Uh I find some of the commander combos to be fairly versatile, enough to want to build 3 color decks with them.

I only have one and two color decks, and with the 4 color commanders coming out then I have at the minimum, 2 more decks to build, one as a theme deck and one as a three color deck.

I've been wanting to build a morph deck in bant colors for a long time, but I lacked the proper commander, I'd say the two color partner commanders will accomplish the task of supplementing morphed creatures just fine. Near unlockable creatures and a colorless engine to cast them off of seems pretty good compared to my other choices.

But that's just me lol.

I agree; some of those cards are versatile. Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix and Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa are perfect for a morph deck.

That said, I'm most likely to head the goodstuff direction because of how generic most of them are. I'd also be dropping the non-mythic partners because, well, OCD. if there was a rare ally cycle with the mechanic, I wouldn't be saying it.

Most of the partners pair very well with Kondo, though. I don't want him to get all of the spotlight.

There's a few that are Cube worthy; Ravos, Vial Smasher, Sidar Kondo, Tanaka, maybe even Silas.

If you're going all out on it though, I'd suggest using cards original to Commander products. (If you want to keep the multi-player feel, add generous amounts of Conspiracy originating cards). I've tested a cube of Commander cards online & it's surprisingly balanced & fun, if a little off-kilter feeling.

Karns_Pyromancer: I really like this idea. I'll consider this an option. Also, what about reprints from the decks themselves?

Depending on whether you add Conspiracy cards, you'll have to add reprints (I think).

For the one I did, I added the decklists for all the Commander products, then erased basic lands and duplicates. As of C15, that should give you about 1081 cards, but most of those are reprints.

Karns_Pyromancer: I might not add cards from Conspiracy unless I didn't have a choice. Though, 1200+ (as of C16; it's my guess) is a lot of cards to sort through.

Yeah, I'd hold off on the reprints personally.

The main idea behind the cube was you'd draft a "TL" deck, including your commander. So, regular draft, then build a mini-commander deck from it.

Karns_Pyromancer: I should've clarified; my apologies. What I was aiming for was a "cube" from which I can build the decks.
