Semi-competitive, semi-budget mono generals?

Commander (EDH) forum

Heya folks!

I've nearly completed my main esper Merieke Ri Berit EDH deck and now I'm looking to dabble in mono coloured decks, first of all I thought it'd be interesting to look at the colours I have the least experience in, red and green first.

I'm working on a mana-ramping, sporeling-swarming Nemata, Grove Guardian mono green deck, and I'm looking for ideas for mono red.. so far I've looked at;

Lovisa Coldeyes tribal

Artifact based Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer

I love the idea of Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician , but no idea how I'd work him..

Any suggestions are welcome, as well as any other mono-commanders of other generals!

Azami, Lady of Scrolls and Arcum Dagsson are probably my favorites in blue. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed , Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker , Omnath, Locus of Mana , and the obvious Avacyn, Angel of Hope . I like the last two a bit less than the others because of how much hate they tend to draw though...

One of the most budgetly (is this a word?) competitive commanders I've seen is Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant . However, you said you wanted something red, so... the obligatory 99 mountain Ashling the Pilgrim .

Funnily enough I thought about Ashling the Pilgrim , I know it's more the surprise factor than the winning, haha, but if she get's mind-controlled or tucked you're screwed. Same as a voltron/weenie Isamaru, Hound of Konda

I'm kind of a magic hipster in the sense that I'm looking for obscure-but-not totally-terrible generals.

I have a bit of soft spot for Erebos with how he's portrayed in the fluff, may look at him.

I already own Memnarch, and I've always wanted to make at artifact EDH, but all the viable lists seem a bit creature dependantl.

What about Talrand, Sky Summoner for a mono-blue general? I know he is fairly cheap (2 bucks high, 1 buck on average) and people make very nice decks around him. Might be an idea.

With Ib Halfheart, Goblin Tactician you basically make an army of goblins, and then charge them full-force into an opponent. If they block, the 4 damage usually kills things, or makes nice dents. If not, you wittle their life down.

Then you rebuild your army (which is quite fast with Krenko).Goblin tribal is stupidly fun if you do it right. Mine was based on Wort, Boggart Auntie but whenever Ib Halfheart came out it was a lot more enjoyable.

Godo, Bandit Warlord makes an equipment based Voltron general, using the Mirrodin Swords, Jitte or Batterskull. Points for using Samurais.

A bit more serious? Try Zo-Zu the Punisher . Not only does the damage stack really well over time, the color red also excellently supports both Land Destruction and Goblin Tribal.

Bosh, Iron Golem fits into crafty artifact decks, containing big beats (Darksteel Colossus , Blightsteel Colossus ), controlish artifacts (Trading Post , Lodestone Golem ) and other artifact interactive red cards (Hellkite Tyrant , Trash for Treasure , Hellkite Igniter )

If you're open for Black, Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis is kinda like a bad Sheoldred or a worse Thraximundar . Nefarox still works as it's own engine though and Commander Damage can stack fast, considering his superior Evasion over the other two.
