Sakashima of a Thousand Faces + Reyhan, Last of the Abzan

Commander (EDH) forum

Posted on Nov. 9, 2020, 10:54 a.m. by KorvoldMizzet

Y'all, I need help building this deck, I have the best colors for clones, now I just need some broken, stackable legendary creatures, please bring it at me!

The reason I am committed to Sultai is for Dimir cards like Evil Twin and simic cards like Progenitor Mimic

My reason for choosing Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, is for the situation that my opponents have nothing good to copy and I can just go off with stackable +1/+1 counters and win off commander damage.

Once I build the deck IRL, I will post the decklist here, and then close the thread, I appreciate the help!

You have to include Biovisionary at least for the Rite of Replication or Sakashima's Will meme wins.

Are you committed to the colors/partners? I feel like the new Kodama of the East Tree would be a very good partner choice. You lose black, but Kodama is busted and very good in multiples!

As for some ETB legendaries that could be fun:
Kaho, Minamo Historian
Keruga, the Macrosage
God-Eternal Rhonas
Kogla, the Titan Ape
Prime Speaker Zegana
Tishana, Voice of Thunder

And here are some legendaries that don't have ETBs, but are good in multiples:
Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy
Edric, Spymaster of Trest
Kira, Great Glass-Spinner (SHEESH)
Rayne, Academy Chancellor
Reki, the History of Kamigawa
Nylea, Keen-Eyed
Thassa, Deep-Dwelling
Imoti, Celebrant of Bounty
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger
Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur

And final note: If you could find a way to make Linessa, Zephyr Mage work in commander, it'd automatically be a fantastic deck.

Thank you! These are great recs! I was also thinking about Nezahal, Primal Tide

Also, Apex Devastator is a pretty nasty card to make copies of. I'd obviously carry a lot of clones as well, so I'd probably only have around 7-10ish non-clone creatures.

Conjurer's Closet and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling are musts. I considered doing white+green for the second commander so I could carry cards to protect and recoup, like Eerie Interlude.

Just so you know, Apex Devastator won't work with any clones because Cascade is a cast trigger, not an ETB!

Blade of Selves and Helm of the Host sadly won't make new copies of the clone, only the card that the clone copied. Soul Foundry and Mimic Vat on the other hand, make recurable clones (similarly I will have Lithoform Engine). Instead of Blade of Selves and Helm of the Host, I need protection equipment for Sakashima of a Thousand Faces, because if he gets removed, my legendary clone army goes kaput... So cards like Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots will be pretty great.

If cloning's your game, then I have a (few) name(s)!

So if cloning is your go to, I'd suggest things that can allow you do go big, quickly. If you are absolutely deadset on Sultai, I understand, but possibly choose Temur? With cards like Riku of Two Reflections?

Another option would be Naya, with Ghired, Conclave Exile?

Some good ideas could be: Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Kindred Charge, Desolation Twin, Giant Adephage, Phyrexian Processor. The new Scute Swarm and Skyclave Relic, and some artifact Shenanigans with Mechanized Production.

Some good, generic populate cards like Druid's Deliverance, Ghired's Belligerence, Second Harvest and of course, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice.

Hope these few Ideas help you out!

I would love too, but I don't have red in my color identity

So, the theme is not necessarily “copy”, the theme is “clones”, so more cards like Spark Double. I’ll through in Scute Swarm just for gits and shiggles, but cards with populate, casting triggers, or token themed abilities won’t really fit into the deck as well. Skyclave Relic and Mechanized Production are good ones, thanks!

And to clarify, I know most of the clones, but I'm looking for actual cards to clone from my own deck. (The bulk of the deck will be clones because a large part will be copying my opponents' creatures, I'm just looking for some absolute UNITS of my own to copy. Cards that have stackable etb and static triggers are mainly what I'm talking about).

I seem to have misunderstood! My apolgies, I might have gone down the ol' Rabbit Hole Alice....

In that case, you're wanting strictly cloning targets eh? I might have a few...

Since your die hard on Sultai, are there any other sub-themes you might be running? Like Mill, or Self-Mill? Recursion?

KorvoldMizzet says... #19

Recursion is a theme for the deck because it allows expensive targets to be cheated out. (some nice cloning targets would be cool)

Thanks

Ok, that clears up the pond much more, thank you.

In that case, some strictly good copy/clone targets include:

  1. Biovisionary: Simply giggily. No explanation necessary.
  2. Sphinx Ambassador: Being able to straight up steal creatures from your opponents' libraries for guessing a random creature is fun!
  3. Woodland Bellower & Fierce Empath: They grab each other, and can grab other creatures! Great for a more "toolbox" utility to your deck!
  4. Temur Sabertooth & Kogla, the Titan Ape: Stuck with a clone that is just not good enough? Well, these two beasties can reset those etb's!
  5. Deadeye Navigator & Peregrine Drake: Yes, of course, they combo. yay. However separately, they can be quite useful. Being able to reset Clone targets is always useful to have in the pocket. With the P Drake, you can net mana depending on the clone being used!
  6. Tishana, Voice of Thunder: She isn't the most mana effective way of drawing cards per se, but the value you can get off of her ETB is just bonkers.
  7. Frilled Mystic, Mystic Snake, & Venser, Shaper Savant: Beyond being just some nice control on a creature body, Venser can get around those sticky "Cannot be countered" spells!
  8. Bane of Progress & Reclamation Sage: Simply lovely Enchantment and artifact removal!
  9. Meteor Golem: need to blow up anything? Golem boi can handle that. (Insert Staples button here)

Let me know if any of these help at all!

My take focuses more on Reyhan, Last of the Abzan and counters (cloning Rehyan for counter stacking from his death trigger ability). But you might find something useful in it. I'll fix up the description probably this weekend to go over interactions and such. Leaving a Legacy (until I add to the description, you can get a feel for what cards are doing by sorting the decklist by custom)

I know it feels obvious but not sure why Avenger of Zendikar hasn't been mentioned yet since doubling up this card produces enormous value and works well with Reyhan.
