Question without much background... sorry

Commander (EDH) forum

If you were to watch someone play a game of commander, would you be more interested immediately AND captivated long-term watching them if they were playing a commander from Commander 2014 OR if they were playing a God from the Theros set?

Kozelek says... #2

Do you mean one of the planeswalkers?

VampireArmy says... #3

The gods for sure. Especially If it had theme to it

Is there an option for Theros block god but not Theros set? I find mono-color to be dull except in star format games.

I personally find the planeswalker commanders to be pretty boring, they provide utility rather than real usage. However, someone with a good Nylea, God of the Hunt or Purphoros, God of the Forge deck would draw me faster than the planeswalker. Still not super exciting, nothing Timmy, Power Gamer level of excitement.

I did see a funny looking Skybind focused Heliod build once.

I would much rather see someone playing a Feldon of the Third Path or Nahiri, Lithomancer than any of the gods

lemmingllama says... #8

Wait oops, I didn't realize that we were also including the non-planeswalker commanders from C14. Those are way more exciting, basically every single one is very interesting and has different robust strategies.

Dromar39 says... #9

The generals are nice but i think its more of the strategy behind the decks that draws me into watching. The mono colors I find a little more interesting because of the restriction that it creates.

January 30, 2015 12:16 a.m.

If we're talking non-planeswalkers, C14 all the way. Feldon is legit.

If we're talking planeswalker commanders though, then I'd go with the gods. I'm not really impressed with the planeswalker commanders.

Original legends all the way. Some ice age thrown in too.

Eh I don't see the walkers as too interesting, but I find the others very interesting. Especially when compared to the relatively boring mono-colored gods.

It's more interesting to see game between players where they are attempting to do something unusual; that matters more than the rest. Personally I'd like to see Titania, Protector of Argoth, Ghoulcaller Gisa, and Stitcher Geralf as commanders rather than the various Gods more because I haven't seen them played in person yet. Titania especially.

February 4, 2015 12:26 p.m.

xcn says... #14

I'd agree that Titania does seem like she'd have some interesting builds in particular! I bought the green deck with her to put some of the cards in my other decks, and used the leftovers for yet another EDH deck, but Ezuri was a lot easier and cheaper to build, so I'd like to see what she's got.

Didgeridooda says... #15

Titania is awesome with mass land removal. That does not lead to happy opponents.

Thanks for all the input guys! It's been really helpful!

Unfortunately I'm limited to mono decks because of funding :o but hopefully, I get to multicolored decks too

nobu_the_bard says... #17

While I'd love to see a Titania, Protector of Argoth, I suspect funding is why I haven't. You'd want say Crucible of Worlds and Doubling Season for example.

The main reason I want to see Stitcher Geralf is because I have no idea what that deck would be doing. I can't get my ahead around how to take advantage of him. Kind of milling, but without black? Fateseal? But there's not really enough of that; Memory Lapse sort of things? I do not know. It would be different to see, at least.

The mono-colored Gods I have seen done to death, but I've probably seen the least of Nylea, God of the Hunt among them. It seems like it'd just be another green beatdown deck though.

Didgeridooda says... #18

Stitcher would be good with delve, flashback, and it gets rid of opponents threats by exiling them. Seems like an ok idea, but being mono blue really hinders that plan.

I had Nylea deck for a while, basically focused on ramp and big creatures with a bit of a deathtouch + trample + combat damage trigger theme.

She also turns Engulfing Slagwurm into a 7/7 unblockable, which is nice.

MWorl91 says... #20

I'm more interested by the Gods. Having easy access to bring one out whenever you have the devotion for it would be cool. Also, they'd be harder to get rid of, so you wouldn't have to keep summoning them.

February 5, 2015 11:04 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #21

@MWorl91 You know you don't need devotion to cast a god from the command zone, right?

February 5, 2015 11:08 p.m.

MWorl91 says... #22

sonnet666 you need devotion to attack and block with a God. Without it, your God is just a really nice enchantment.

February 7, 2015 12:55 a.m.

sonnet666 says... #23

But not to cast it... which is what I said...

February 7, 2015 1:13 a.m.

xcn says... #24

Your god is MORE vulnerable to removal when it's a creature, so some gods actually want your devotion on the low side, or to have creatures or permanents you can bounce at will to save them from Paths or Swords or Final Judgment or w/e.

Nahiri, the Lithomancer is a beautiful commander. Just add swords.

I cut my oversized nahiri in half, and put her rules text on her ass. Always grabs attention.

Kozelek says... #26

Do you have a pic of that Schuesseled? I'd like to see it as I've gotten the Nahiri deck, the last sword I was missing (Sword of Fire and Ice) and about $50 worth of other signals, the nahiri play mat AND last weekend I finally got the Nahiri edh sleeves (and white is my least favorite color but Stoneforge Mystic and Stonehewer Giant was my favorite creatures in their respected blocks.... Well the eldrazi where pretty dope too.....and Goatnapper is still one of my all-time favorite cards EVER! But.....) and I've been contemplating making an "over sized" life counter out of 4 oversized cards granted I'll have to get 4 more of them (but they are cheep as most people don't care about the over sized commander cards) and I figure if I can do 3 lines of beads in a regular card text box, 2 lines of 10 for life and 1 line of 10 for poison I should be able to do 5 lines in the oversized text box, 4 lines of 10 for commander life and 1 line of 10 for poison, or should I go for 2 lines for poison? Personally I think poison should be doubled for commander as well as life

You don't acctually shuffle her into your deck then you still use the regular sized one if she gets "tucked" right?

Kozelek says... #30

I need to figure out how to link photos on here

February 8, 2015 10:26 a.m.

@Kozelek, yeah i use the normal card if it gets tucked, hasnt happened yet though.

To post a pic just go to a hosting website like: http://images.mobile.eu.org/

upload an image, then copy and paste the text under Code for websites (HTML Code):
