Opinions on Daybreak Coronet

The title says it all! In an enchantress-style EDH deck, is Daybreak Coronet good, too conditional, or just "win more"?

Depends on what you stick it on?

Are you going for a Voltron style kill? Or a more value based enchantress deck? Sigarda etc?

Good guess! It's going on Sigarda, Host of Herons. I am definitely going for the voltron kill. I'm just not sure whether Coronet promotes inconsistency or it is worth the inconsistency due to the pure power it has as a single aura.

If you play any sort of auras with a voltron kill, Daybreak is a fine include. It lets her win any air fight, attack while keeping your life protected and gain you life.

However, it is the sort of card that paints a big fat X on you as a voltron player. If you wanted to play a slower game, consider about when you play it?

I'm fine with painting an "x" on my forehead. From my experience with the deck, there is not much other players can do about it anyways once I'm setup.

Regardless I won't make the discussion any more complicated with the intricacies of what other auras I run and how many there are.

Thanks for the advice!

It has its homes in some decks. People like playing Shu Yun in an all out build. It fits well there, for instance. It's more like Voltron just sucks.

I agree, in a hyper-competitive environment where you have people playing all high tier generals, voltron is probably not the best option. I run a fairly optimized sigarda deck and have pretty much no consistency issues in my current meta.

However your answer doesn't really answer my question.

Oh, my b.

Uhh, never really played enchantress. My gut instinct is that it's too win-more. If you're playing GW, you really ought to out-value much of the board with Sigarda as is. What really matters is your ability to protect her. Coronet turns Sigarda from a 4-turn clock down to a 3-turn one. That's not massive. I'd rather rely on Rancor + the usual suspects for raw pump. Lifelink and Vigilance are nice, but not so relevant that I'd include it.

Toss it in if your meta is VERY creature heavy.

There is also the downside that the coronet requires it's target to be enchanted already; if all other auras fall off it, coronet dies too. It gives your opponents a two for one value kill for something that you don't want in your opening hand unless you have another aura already.

@TheDeceiver: I agree, trample is the most relevant ability when it comes to voltron as general damage is my main win condition, but vigilance/lifelink are pretty necessary to keep yourself alive. As far as I know, though, Daybreak Coronet is one of better vigilance enchantments in my colors.

@Staizer: I did not actually know it was that easy to be 2 for 1'ed with coronet. I agree, Daybreak Coronet does promote consistency issues, especially since my aura count is around 13.

Play it and get 3 for 1'd. I don't think it's great outside of decks like Bruna, Light of Alabaster or Sigarda, Host of Herons. If you love the card, then by all means play it. Otherwise, I don't think it's worth the include.

@Dredge4life: I am playing Sigarda, Host of Herons, so that makes it decent? If I were in love with the card, I wouldn't be asking for other people's opinion on it.

Do you have Privileged Position in your deck? If so, it wouldn't be aweful, but I think there are better options, I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

November 24, 2016 12:07 p.m.

Privileged Position is in the deck along with Sterling Grove. I'm not going to list them all but rest assured, I run a majority of the good auras that are 3 cmc or less.

If you're putting it on a creature as unkillable as Sigarda, then it should be fine. Just make sure you can get a hit in with it before you put it on her.

It's great for stuff like Sigarda or Uril, the Miststalker, but unless you're doing a dedicated aura build I can't see it being of much use elsewhere.
