I've always had some sort of vampire deck, and after it rotated out I decided to make an EDH deck with it- this is the deck I designed, it has a few cool interactions. However, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as this is the first time I have ever tried making an EDH deck, and I just learned how to play this format. I would appreciate any and all suggestions that you have. Thanks! Here it is: deck:vampiric-torment

What i did was first decide one what general i wanted to play. U can just search legendary creatures in gatherer. I decided on Arcanis the Omnipotent firstly because he is only one color and i didnt want to buy dual lands. Secondly because card draw is powerful all the time and there are many good synergies/combos with arcanis.

Next i looked through Epochalyptik's deck List of EDH Staples and Power Cards for anything in my price rage. After i got a nice list of cards i bought what i could online and traded for some of the others.

My deck was looking real good and had several infinite combos. I had never played edh before and heard that most games end up being who can draw their combo first, so i built my deck accordingly. Sadly though my deck was the only combo deck in my playgroup and ppl began to dislike when i played.

So what i suggest is talking to your playgroup and seeing what types of decks they are using so u know how serious you want your deck to be. Then just go from there.

Also, i know this isnt quite the help you wanted but i typed this up before reading your post and dont want it to go to waste lol. I was in the moment.

Thanks! Yeah I'm still trying to figure out what is in my budget, and if I can figure out any more infinite combos besides bloodchief ascension/mindcrank and exquisite blood/sanguine bond that are pretty easy to start.. Trying to keep it pretty cheap, but still competitive.
