Mystic Intellect Precon - Worth an upgrade?

Commander (EDH) forum

I inherited this precon (w a few upgrades) from my son, who says its a dog, really just picked up for Dockside. I'm intrigued by spellslinger which I haven't tried (I'm pretty new to MTG and EDH) and wondering if an approx $50 upgrade w Sevinne would pump it up enough to compete on say.. a casual Fri night game night or would have to put more $$ in it or I'm better off melting and re-pouring with another spellslinger commander. Thanks..

Elsha is the better commander and yes that pre-con was a dog; I would build a budget version of Elsha of the Infinite start with moving her as the commander that will be a big improvement by itself.

the deck has an identity crisis out of the box. Elsha is the best general in the deck. But my personal pick for jeski spell slingers is Kykar, Wind's Fury either one of those two can be a solid spell slinger deck.

I only run three creatures out side Elsha in my deck I use a lot of token enchantments etc and one of those creatures are Kykar so that is a really good option as a commander as while. No arguments from me on using Kykar as the commander over Elsha. Elsha or Kykar are you better option to pilot that deck and start swapping out stuff you can turn it into a very budget deck that will function while but the default commander is a hard pass.

Just as I suspected.. Last precon he gave me was Estrid, which I played around with for a while before switching to Tuvasa, which is why more fun to play and much more competitive.

If the Precon still has Elsha use her she can be built for $50 no problem the command qaurters has great budget deck deck he did a $10 dollar artifact Elsha deck. Mitch does great budget decks that you can upgrade easily with a little more $$ but it is still a great way to build a solid budget deck and starting base you can upgrade from over time

Personally tried to upgrade sevinne but i think jeskai flashback doesn't have a lot of support. In order to make it a competitive deck I changed to Riku of two reflections as the commander and tried to keep most of the flashback theme while adding ramp and other great synergies.

Generous Gift is a personal favorite same with Approach of the Second Sun. Baral, Chief of Compliance is a must.

If you want to sypport a bit the token theme you can add Young Pyromancer, Murmuring Mystic, Docent of Perfection  Flip, Twilight Drover and maybe Sephara, Sky's Blade. As for the spellslinger theme i personnaly suggest Goblin Electromancer, Izzet Guildmage ,Ral, Storm Conduit, the new narset and Jeskai Ascendancy. For instant and sorcery other than the basics try adding spells with either flashback, jump-start or retrace.
