Mono Green Commander

Commander (EDH) forum

I am looking to build a new Commander deck to play with my local group, but something that still suits 1 v 1 matches at my kitchen table. We usually have 4-6 people in games at my LGS, so I'd like to be able to hold my own against those odds. What I want are suggestions that FIT INTO MY PARAMETERS!

Those guidelines are as follows: Yeva, Nature's Herald is the general...period. I don't care who you think is better, she IS the general. Also, while this is not a budget build, don't suggest things like Gaea's Cradle ...I will not spend $100+ on singletons for this. Other than changing my general or destroying my wallet, I am open to all suggestions. Please give me explanation when suggesting things as well. For instance, don't tell me to run a card just because its good, I have a rather limited card knowledge right now and need to know why I am playing this card. My basic idea is to abuse ETB creatures like Eternal Witness and Elvish Visionary with Cloudstone Curio to keep things going my way and then smash hard with some heavy creatures.

PS...is there anything mono green can access to do what Intruder Alarm does?

Thank you for helping!!!!

Seedborn Muse seems like it should be an autoinclude. Untapping your everything so you can cast stuff every turn seems to make sense to me. On a related note, I love Wild Pair for double the fun.

Garruk, Primal Hunter is going to help keep your hand full.

Greater Good will do the same thing, and is very useful when somebody tries to Mind Control your Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger . Also, Regal Force is a decent sized body with the potential to draw you a couple cards. It's not great after a field wipe, but even then it's still a cantrip.

Having lots of draw will keep a constant flow of ETB creatures in your hand so you don't run out of steam. Obviously ramp will be important. Farhaven Elf , Cultivate , etc...

I don't know of anything that is similar to Intruder Alarm in green but I do have a card I wanted to build a flash deck around. Arboria I wanted to use it with creatures that can cheat lands into play so I can keep land drops and still cast spells and creatures on my opponents turn so they can't attack me. I was thinking of Vedalken Orrery as the other piece to flash other non-creatures. Other cards that work great in mono green are Asceticism , Seedborn Muse , Aluren , Tooth and Nail , Sylvan Library /Mirri's Guile , Worldly Tutor , Avenger of Zendikar , Oracle of Mul Daya , Soul of the Harvest , and Genesis Wave .

Arboria seems like it would suit a token deck; the current reading (from Oracle) is "Creatures can't attack a player unless that player cast a spell or put a nontoken permanent onto the battlefield during his or her last turn." So putting tokens onto the battlefield or only abilities that are not putting things into play (monstrosity or other counter abilities, for example) would would match the conditions.

If you are going to try to abuse ETB a whole lot, maybe Conjurer's Closet ? It is colorless blinking every turn. Nylea, God of the Hunt would likely be powerful considering she'd come online easily.

Some green ramp spells are like, Search for Tomorrow , Kodama's Reach , Cultivate , Explosive Vegetation , Ranger's Path , Skyshroud Claim . These would all help you make bigger plays earlier.

If you are able to stick mostly to a tribe (like elves, beasts) you can benefit from tools like Cavern of Souls or Gaea's Herald . Stuff like Leyline of Lifeforce or Boseiju, Who Shelters All are similar to keep the blue decks from getting you down.

There's a lot of variations on Naturalize , if you need answers, but Krosan Grip will break combos if you need it, and Fade into Antiquity puts their pieces where they can't get them back.

If your commander is critical to your strategy, consider stuff like Mask of Avacyn , Lightning Greaves , Whispersilk Cloak to protect her.

I run a budget yeva deck and I have to say dropping in deathtouching blockers at instant speed is pretty fun. Green has plenty of them... just something to keep in mind since Green is also notoriously weak on removal.

Speaking of removal... not Yeva specific but make sure you have some things like Perilous Vault etc. I also have fallen in love with Predator, Flagship in my mono green. Makes quick work of one of our biggest threats (fliers) and can take out any creature normally with all of green's mana.

Anytime I play mono green I make sure to include Dosan the Falling Leaf , and Hall of Gemstone . Both go a long way to make of for some of greens deficiencies i.e. getting countered.

Victrix, I like both of those cards, but I feel like they would defeat the purpose of playing Yeva, Nature's Herald . Dosan makes her flash unusable and the Hall would lock me out on other turns unless my opponent plays green as well.

Ramp. Tons, and tons of ramp. Then tons of draw. These together will get your deck to a good place, and ready to drop bombs. Pretty much most of the suggestions have been made.

Draw, Greater Good , Momentous Fall , Staff of Nin , Mind's Eye

I have a couple decks that might give you some ideas. My ETB deck is You will Roon the day!, and my mono green is Omnastic. Take a look through my decks, and let me know if this helped. When you get your deck together, link me to it, and I can help from there if you like.

Running mono green, artifacts are important. They allow you to do things that green does not normally do. You have Beast Within , but artifact removal can really help. As well as the artifact draw, and boots/greaves ect.

A good general instead of yeva would be Anthousa, Setessan Hero .. Am i right!?

Making your lands routinely vulnerable to everything from Pestilence to Umezawa's Jitte to Serrated Arrows seems like not such a good idea.

Rhinowarrior read what he put. He has chosen his general. He does not want to change. Also, that guy is bad.

At least my suggestion for an alternate commander was subtle.

First thing you should do is make the deck with what you have. Post it, and say what your budget is for the deck. That will help me alot in what to suggest.

Getting a list together and posting it in the next few days. No budget restrictions beyond my refusal to.buy Gaea's Cradle beyond that I don't see much I'd use out of my budget aside from the possibility of Ulamog and Kozilek. But I can see this functioning without them
