So I was looking through the All Time list on EDHRec and noticed that out of them 3 are Mardu. No other combination has this much of a presence on the All Time list.

Now these three are Kaalia of the Vast, Queen Marchesa, and Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. They are all powerful cards. But the only thing that separates them from Boros is .

Boros is the color combination that gets shit on the most but I guess if you add black all your problems are solved? I mean Boros gets more shit than mono-white or mono-red...

Just something I observed and found funny really.

Diaclaimer: The following is the opinion of of a very casual EDH player. As such, it should not be considered a substitute for actual experience.

offers recursion and tutors. and have a lot of good pieces, but not a lot of ways to reliably bring them together. Also, Kaalia of the Vast can bring a lot of big, scary, expensive creatures at high speed and works well for several different tribal builds, so she's appealing to less competitive players with a flair for the dramatic.

Well if you think about it this way. It's not boros. Its orzhov and rakdos, then it gets much better.

there's a reason it's called heavenly rakdos, white has the best creature removal and mass land destruction, red provides... it's spunk (idk red is weird) and black provides the tutor power of demons and vampires two of the edgiest creature types, even the most cost effective way to deal with various permanents. Only problem is it's seductive power is so obvious it draws the gullible and warns the knowledgeable too easily, hence why it's popular and yet boros is considered weak.

Red provides many colors with wincons, from Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to Gratuitous Violence to Insurrection, how I see it is that red wins games, and one of the most, if not the most efficient color at doing it. It isn't great at getting to the win, so needs help.

Black gives this help in droves, it lets you tutor the right wincons for red, such as a Buried Alive to get a Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Zealous Conscripts, and Phyrexian Delver in the graveyard, then give you the efficient ways to cheat out the wincons with Reanimate effects or anything else to cheat it out, seen on Alesha and Kaalia, and many Marchesa lists.

Then white is the color that helps with interacting with opponents, commonly replaced with blue, as both colors give removal/counterspells, efficient answers and powerful support for wincons, such as white having tokens and Karmic Guide and other tutors even with Recruiter of the Guard and Enlightened Tutor, etc. and blue having card draw.

Grixis is a popular combination as well for the reasons above.
