Jeskai Ascendancy Combo
Posted on March 7, 2017, 5:59 p.m. by NapoleonBonaparte
Ive been trying for several weeks now to brew up an EDH Jeskai Ascendancy combo deck.
And I am lost. I just don't know where to begin and some of the list I've seen are meh. Should i give up on trying to make it work? Is there something similar i can play thats better? Can you link me some deck lists?
Thanks to all in advance
Building a jeskai enchantment based combo deck in commander is asking for a hard time, because, to my knowledge, there are no jeskai commanders that can tutor for cards. You'd be forced to build a deck stocked full of as many tutors as those colors could offer, and you may even need a 4-5c commander just to get a critical mass of tutors.
Long story short, building a commander deck around an enchantment based combo is asking for trouble.

Are you trying to go straight Jeskai? Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis seems like it would be a great commander for this...Mine actually is a group hug/ pillow fort deck, not set up for crazy combo, but hiding a combo deck behind a hug/fort commander seems good....
I say this because I have been using Jeskai Ascendancy in it as one of 3 ways to pump token swarms which is one of my decks wincons....and have noticed is crazy interactions with Ascendancy, Selvala, Explorer Returned, Bloom Tender ect... you could also throw Paradox Engine, Isochron Scepter, Cryptolith Rite and any other combo shenanigans at it you want I suppose...

I guess it depends on what part of Jeskai Ascendancy you're interested in. If you primarily care about he creature untapping then it sounds like you are going down the storm route (and using creatures for mana). If this is the case I owuld highly recommend pairing Ascendancy with Paradox Engine. You can build this as either a 4 or 5 colour deck.
If you want to use the creature buff as an outlet for storm however, toekns is probably your best bet. I would recommend adding green and probably pairing Tana, the Bloodsower and Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker as your commander.

joshuaizac is on point. K&T are hugely effective at stalling/group hugging until you've got your combo up, and G also adds some useful enchantment support/tutors (Bring to Light, for example). I've got a brew of them myself with Ascendancy on there, where I pair it with Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper to turn my lands into creatures. Best of luck!
