I am looking to make a a Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind deck that can basically rape any edh deck on the face of the earth. I want to start out on a budget and then add on better cards as I go. The main reason is because I want a deck to kill my cousin with since he beats me everytime we play. I beat him 3 of 10 games with my The God-blin King edh deck but I want to be able to win 10 of those 10 games. What are some good cards to get started?

Island , Mountain , Steam Vents , Sulfur Falls , Izzet Guildgate , Shivan Reef , Evolving Wilds

That seems like a pretty decent start.

Well, you can build a strong deck on a budget (especially if you only need two colors), but you won't be beating tournament-level stuff on a regular basis.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind is pretty forgiving because you can pack a lot of countermagic and artifact ramp in to support some simple infinite combos.

I think you should be looking at infinite combos, like the ones in Curiosity and Tandem Lookout . Then find ways to tutor up your combo, such as Drift of Phantasms , Dizzy Spell , and Mystical Tutor if you can get one. Also things like Gamble would work well.

Perhaps you could find use in things like Jace, the Living Guildpact , Faithless Looting , Think Twice , Deep Analysis , etc. Also could play Chasm Skulker and your own Purphoros, God of the Forge for fun.

Maybe you could even play Mind Control , Control Magic , or Confiscate and Volition Reins .

Not sure if a deck with Niv can beat everything.. Any deck can fail no matter how great they are.

I have a friend though who plays a Maralen of the Mornsong EDH with like, 80 something swamps. Then searches for ad nauseum for his whole deck and gains life somehow. Then casts Sickening Dreams to kill everyone. It rarely loses.

@kriskurse I may have to try that at some point if your friend doesn't mind!

kriskurse I know that deck. First get maralen, then Ad Nauseam . Next turn search for Skirge Familiar . Next turn, use ad nauseam for X swamps where X is the highest life total among opponents. Then search and use Exsanguinate .

Black with it's cheap tutors is probably the best route. Does not matter what you put with it, just make suer black and a bunch of tutors are there. You are looking at combos like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed -Triskelion , Hinder /something else that places a card on bottom-Tunnel Vision , Helm of Obedience -Leyline of the Void lots of cheap infinite combos out there. Just run tutors, counters, and ramp. BUG Vorosh, the Hunter is the budget commander for those colors. Splurge on Tooth and Nail to hit the Triskelion combo hard. All together, might be able to get a deck like that around 100 bucks.

I put together a rough, budgeted (not even close to completed) niv mizzet deck! It has been playtesting well so far. Let me know what I need to change. That would be appreciated:)
