Friend and I started playing EDH differently.

Each of you picks a deck.

Shuffle them together, and put it in the middle. Commanders go in the big deck, and have different sleeves so you can see where they are.

Then Wizard's tower it.

Deal 2 off the top to each player. 2 decks shuffled together should work fine for 4 players.

Surround the deck with 7 cards.

Start the turn by picking a face up card, then drawing from the deck. (if you are doing 1v1 1st person just picks a face up card)

Still trying to figure out the command zone. Thinking that the commanders shuffle back in to the big deck if they go away is the best way.

Use 40 life/21 commander damage.

Best combination we found so far was my friend's Xenagod deck + my Talrand deck. Big stompy + control had an oldschool feel to it.

All of my friends make jokes about playing this and it just sounds horrible to me. I keep saying I'll never do this purely because of how much of a pain in the ass this would be to unshuffle the decks and such.I've never heard of someone else actually doing this, I always thought it was my friends 'memeing' but if it is actually fun I may try it out.

It was a blast. We were drinking a little, and just decided to give it a shot. As long as the decks are in different color cases separating takes no time at all.

Give it a shot, and let me know how it works for ya. Might take a bit of effort to get decks that work well together.
