Fellwar Stone vs Arcane Signet

Is Arcane Signet strictly better than Fellwar Stone ? Fellwar Stone can get you mana of any color which is relevant for some decks but Arcane Signet just instantly gives you the mana of colors you probably want most. Will Arcane Signet completely replace Fellwar Stone ?

Legit one of the best cards to be made for EDH in a standard set.

I’d hesitate to use the term “strictly better” since that’s generally a term of art used when one card is definitively better, not just different, than another - such as Lightning Bolt being strictly better than either Shock or Lightning Strike .

Here, the effects are slightly different, so one cannot be “strictly better” than the other. That said, you can still say if one of the two effects is generally going to be better than the other, and that analysis overwhelmingly favours Arcane Signet .

Think of it this way - you always will have use for mana in your own colours; you’ll almost never have use for mana outside your colours.

I would say yes it is better, but it is being printed in a very limited product, the brawl decks they seem to be making. The card is already running at $20 for preorders while Fellwar Stone is a little under $3. So in comparison it would be easier to pick up the stone.

Also you would have to consider what kind of deck you are running. Decks with 3,4,5 colors may find Fellwar stone still useful for a mana rock even if Arcane Signet is better. I think decks that have 3 or more colors will probably try to run both of them, but I am in no rush to preorder a $20 mana rock.

If your deck never uses mana outside of the commander's colors I would say yes it is better. If you want to use or in a deck then fellwar might be more beneficial. Maybe. Should probably run both though because chances are you don't have enough mana production in your deck :P

Yes, it is strictly an upgrade over fellwar stone. Many decks are going to be quite happy to run both.

On tcgplayer yes... Just wait for the Throne of Eldraine set to come out. The card is a common so the price will drop to reasonable amounts like 50 cents. If it doesn't this is one time when I would say crack packs instead of buying the single...

DrukenReaps - Arcane Signet is not going to be in packs - it is going to be in each of the four preconstructed Brawl decks that are being released alongside Throne. It was given a common rarity because every one of the decks is going to have a singular copy of the card.

Still, even if it's a common, it should not cost more than 5 bucks when the decks come out. Magic prints their product to death, so there will be plenty of those floating around.

(spoilers) I will pick two of those up for both of our commander decks lol.

DrukenReaps I think it won’t be printed in the actual set since it is a card that directly referenced he commander meaning it is a completely dead slot if it were printed in the standard set. It will probably be printed in a set of brawl decks so despite being a card with a common rating it will still be in lowish supply like how cards like Teferi's Protection are since it has only seen a print in a single commander deck.

Well I stand corrected then, buy the brawl decks. That'll still be the better value if it holds at any price over $2...

Supposedly there will be really good reprints in those decks, so I feel like it'll be a good purchase regardless.

I'm pretty sure the Arcane Signet is also slated to appear in the premium collector packs like oddly enough the planeswalker deck only cards. Sure it won't drastically increase the supply, but it does mean you can crack a signet in a pack.

A foil signet even in the collector packs.
