Are there any cards that can efficiently protect many of my permanents from the effects of Dimensional Breach?

Teferi's Protection is the only thing that comes to mind...(card won't link for some reason)

If you can exile your permanents in response, with cards like Ghostway or Eerie Interlude. Teferi's Protection would also work

Oh I forgot to mention: I'm also the one casting Dimensional Breach

Fun thing is to Bojuka Bog your own graveyard then bring Dimensional Breach back from exile later, again and again. At least until someone Strip Mines the Bog then just use another effect to exile your graveyard. More fun when you also can give yourself extra upkeeps to bring back more from exile. I play a 5 color Child of Alara deck built around playing from both my graveyard and from exile. It feels godlike when noone can get rid of anything of mine for long.

Billgod247, Dimensional Breach only returns cards exiled by itself.

chosenone124 That is not how it reads The card says "Exile all permanents. For as long as any of those cards remain exiled, at the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player returns one of the exiled cards they own to the battlefield." It does not say "with this card" or "with Dimensional Breach" just simply "they own" instead. The rules for the card on gatherer also do not restrict it as so.

I'm pretty sure chosenone124 is correct, and either way the card specifically brings back permanents so you would never be able to re-cast dimensional breach anyway.

Dimensional Breach does not specify card type of any kind whether the exiled card should be permanent or otherwise nor does it in any way specify which exiled card other than by "one of the exiled cards they own".

Billgod247: Dimensional Breach only returns cards that were exiled by Dimensional Breach

Billgod247: and it actually does specify permanents.

Exile all permanents. For as long as any of those cards remain exiled, at the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player returns one of the exiled cards they own to the battlefield.

A Permanent is anything that is cast that stays in play on the battlefield. Permanents exclude Instants and Sorceries. This is because Instants are instantly cast, play their effect and fizzle, and Sorceries must be played at the beginning of the turn and generally last one turn before they fizzle as well. While still employing their effect, these are not called Permanents because they do not stay on the battlefield, per se.

maxon spells only "fizzle" if they don't resolve. sorceries don't have to be cast at the "beginning" of the turn either. they can be cast in the post-combat main phase as well.

yeah I just copied and pasted that from some site. I just re read it too and realized that wording is a little wonky, but I was only trying to show how sorceries aren't permanents.

Billgod247 says... #18

I realize that yes it does say exile all permanents, however it also REQUIRES a player for as long as any of those permanents are still in exile to on his or her own upkeep to return a CARD they OWN from exile to Play. It does in no way say which card must, should, or could be returned.

Billgod247 You can't return non-permanents to the battlefield.

Okay here is the text of the card again:

Exile all permanents. For as long as any of those cards remain exiled, at the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player returns one of the exiled cards they own to the battlefield.

Notice how it says "as long as any of those cards remain exiled". This means that Breach keeps track of what it has exiled. More importantly, it later says "that plater returns one of the exiled they own to the battlefield". Not only did it already define those exiled cards, but it also doesn't tell you to only return permanent cards this way, as opposed to returning cards that can't be put onto the battlefield at all, since only permanent cards are going to be exiled by it.

It can't return sorceries, but it also can't return permanents exiled another way either.

MagicalHacker it is possible to exile sorceries with it.

Soul Summons

They will not return to the battlefield because you cannot return non-permanents to the battlefield

Dimensional Breach is broken! It does NOT say in any way return one of THOSE cards or one of the cards EXILED WITH DIMENSIONAL BREACH. It does only check that any of the cards exiled with it are still in exile AND ALSO that the card returning to play is from exile and owned by that player.

Billgod247 it really doesn't work like you think.

This has been asked on other forums. If you don't trust that site, feel free to ask in the Rules Q&A section and you will receive the exact same answer.

Here's the TLDR

607.2a If an object has an activated or triggered ability printed on it that instructs a player to exile one or more cards and an ability printed on it that refers either to "the exiled cards" or to cards "exiled with [this object]," these abilities are linked. The second ability refers only to cards in the exile zone that were put there as a result of an instruction to exile them in the first ability.

Dimensional Breach oracle text:

Exile all permanents. For as long as any of those cards remain exiled, at the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player returns one of the exiled cards they own to the battlefield.

If you read 607.2a, "the exiled cards" refers to cards exiled with Dimensional Breach.
