Devour for Power - The hidden strategy

Commander (EDH) forum

Hey guys, I've searched a couple forums for this question and have yet to come up with more than few threads discussing the possibility; the possibility that the three commander cards in "Devour for Power" are the recipe for an amazing Dredge EDH deck. Let's look at the commanders, and I'll explain myself.

The Mimeoplasm - Loves your graveyard, the more the better. Exiling 2 creatures is only a problem if you don't have that many creatures in your graveyard. Sure, you can kill things or mill other people to put stuff there, but why do that when you can just mill yourself? You gain the advantage of knowing what will/won't be in your graveyard and playing that to your advantage if you use this guy as your general.

Damia, Sage of Stone - Alot of people are afraid to run this card, because, um, if you can't cast anything from your hand, that's pretty much game if she stays out.

Now, let's take a moment and look at probably the best dredge card in Legacy, Golgari Grave-Troll ....done? The benefit to dredge is that you can reliably mill yourself when Damia is out, and never ever have to worry about her consequence.

IDEAS FOR THE DECK:I'm trying to piece together some things that I know I'll need for the deck. I'll want to use green for ramp/removal, blue for counter/CA if I run much countermagic, and black for reanimate, graveyard love, and of course Living Death . The key to using blue in the deck is to be able to look at the cards in your library and reorder them so that you know whether or not you'll want to dredge cards if you get the chance, i.e., Jace, the Mind Sculptor 's 0 ability or even simple things like Brainstorm or Ponder

SOME OF THE DREDGE CARDS:When I first thought of the idea, I wasn't sure if there was enough dredge to make the deck possible, but since you will not want to be dredging a lot, I believe it might be possible. Dredge is a G/B ability only as far as I know, so some of the cards I know I'll be including are Golgari Grave-Troll , Golgari Thug , Life from the Loam , Stinkweed Imp , and Dakmor Salvage .

Thanks for reading, let me know what you think of my idea. Like I said, there might be a post on this already, I was just pretty excited when I thought of it.

Hey Khosi, Yes, you're definitely on the right track here. I'm currently running a DfP commander deck that has Golgari Grave-Troll and Life from the Loam . I originally had more dredge in the deck, but decided that there were bigger ways to mill yourself. One of my favorites is Morality Shift . In one game I played, I was able to play Morality Shift and Living Death on the same turn! Here's my deck: All your graveyard are belong to me. I've recently taken it in a group hug direction for my play group, but it's still pretty powerful. Let me know if and when you get a list put together for yours!
