Is it just me or are all of these kinda crap?

The Abzan one makes things with lots of keywords, but that's just not that exciting to me.

The Jeskai one gives free cycling, but aren't there better cycling commanders already?

The mardu one wants you to cast your Commander from the command zone a bunch. First, it's worse than Prossh. Second, it doesn't have access to green, which means paying for Commander tax will be hard.

The RUG one seems pretty good actually, but I think that Yidris is just better at doing that.

The BUG one builds around mutate, which is only in Ikoria. Its ability is a good way to mitigate the downsides of mutate, but the card pool to play with will be tiny.

Of course, I'm not good at casual playing. If people are excited for these and see exciting possibility where I don't, then spoiler hype! But man, these cards do nothing for me.

In some ways, I suppose it's okay that these are underwelming. Past commander deck commanders have been extremely pushed, and as a result the most popular commanders are from the precon decks. Getting a set that won't be as format-warping is okay. Besides, I am pretty sure they're putting enemy fetch lands in either this set or the next conspiracy/battlebond-like set. If this has fetchlands, then I don't care what else is in the set.

Honestly these arent as pushed, but I think these could be interesting/fun commanders. Like I definitely wanna try building the Jeskai one (also we really havent seen a good cycling commander yet, at least not one that lets you Decree of Annihilation for free

Yeah the Jesaki one is really solid, the rest are very forgettable. None of them strike me as competitive enough for competitive purposes.

Who cares about the other 10 possibilities when I finally get to build one of my favorite archetypes of my early competitive playing career in commander? All I know is Astral Sligh is going to make a triumphant return and tickle my nostalgia bone.

Temur one seems like it could be fun. The jeski one looks decent but the rest are kinda meh

Yeah, I'm also pretty okay with the Jeskai and Temur options as I think they may have some interesting potential. The rest don't really jump out at me all that much but I'm trying not to judge things too much on these initial impressions. I also wonder what the non-main commanders will be like, particularly the Battlebond-style partners.

Where getting "partner with" in this set?

You know, while I don't think we have any stand outs, I bet these commanders will be very fun to play against each other.

Surprisingly, I think I want to make an Otrimi deck the most. I know they're silverbordered but I kind of want to combine the Mutate and Host-Augment mechanics just to see what happens. Tell me that attacking with a Multi-Headed Octopus Nightmare Beast doesn't sound like fun.

Neheb eat your heart out for best creature type, haha.

Agree ToolmasterOfBrainerd, so far I'm just seeing it as a set I will save some money on... Which is not all bad, but I would have liked more exciting stuff during Covidtime. I do see it from a different perspective more "filthy casual" & its not doing a lot for me yet either. What I'm seeing so far are: a couple of GOOD boardwipes, an exciting Goad card with a treasure upside to make up for the 2-for-1 possibility, some good artifact/enchantment hate - stapled onto some creatures, otherwise a mechanic, which basically has some of the same shortcomings as auras with the feelbad potential of 2-for-1ings & a preventable not-quite ETB effect stapled on (yes, repeatable if you play a large volume mutate in your deck).

Glee the treasure enchantment is meant to be played on someone else's creature.

I’m liking Kelsein, the Plague; but I identify as a “filthy casual.”

shadow63 I didn't say otherwise... You still control/own the aura, so treasure is still coming your way. There will still be a temptation for a different 2-for-1 dynamic (from an opponent's perspective - remove a creature with 2 other player's mana sunk into it). 2 opponents still may gun for whatever creature has the aura, or boardwipes happen, but at least this way you get potentially: some treasure return, eventually someone using removal on an opponent's creature, & forced damage being thrown at someone else. Better upside than Vow of Lightning, for example, which usually falls flat with no return. Maybe less durability than Bloodthirsty Blade, but more possibility of some return as well. Feels like R&D has been doing a good job learning that even politics cards should have the possibility of payoff attached & suddenly they become more playable.
