Chainer, Nightmare Adept

Commander (EDH) forum

So I was mucking about with the Anje precon and I decided to play with Chainer, Nightmare Adept . And it was fantastic. Just a precon with a few better lands and a new commander. Now I want to build a chainer deck that is a staxy, nasty, wrathy deck where I play a Plaguecrafter / Fleshbag Marauder / Merciless Executioner over and over and just keep my opponents off of creatures. So I'm doing that. What do I do to win/keep the destruction rolling after they can play 2+ creatures a turn? (I'm playing Dictate of Erebos ). I also want a handful of madness cards just because you can cast them off of Chainer. Probably a handful of the best. I have a bunch of them because I have the precon. Any suggestions for the deck?

Any sort of ETB effect will be perfect.

Also Flameshadow Conjuring would be perfect to get double triggers off of your creatures, and it gives the token haste so you can swing without losing much since it'd be exiled at your end step anyway. This way you get twice the value off of the ETB and you can swing for some boardstate pressure.

HERE is a list of creatures in Rakdos that have Madness.

Also worth considering are creatures with LTB triggers (Leave the Battlefield; AKA Death Triggers)

And literally any aristocrats as well.

Thrilling Encore may be a card to consider because it can act as a single turn grave pact that can even be at instant speed in case there is a wipe on another person's turn.

Grave Betrayal is a bit pricey mana-wise but can be devastating if you pull it off.

Mogis, God of Slaughter seems like he'd fit in as well.

I would suggest Library of Leng as a powerful tech piece. It gives you no max hand size, protects against other discard strategies, and gives you the ability to reuse a card if you want to activate Chainer, Nightmare Adept , but don't have anything in hand you want to pitch away.

Love the options I'm getting here. What are some recommendations for card draw, etc. for the deck?

Can't overestimate Moonlight Bargain , since it fills both your hand and your graveyard at instant speed.

Black's got tons of burst draw, like Dark Bargain , Succumb to Temptation , Sign in Blood , Read the Bones , Night's Whisper , Ancient Craving , Ambition's Cost etc.

Black also has a bunch of steady-draw effects, like Greed , Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip, Erebos, God of the Dead , and the recent addition that I've liked a fair bit, (especially if you're going to be running sacrifice and reanimate tricks) Bloodtracker .

I'd also definitely recommend Harvester of Souls for your strategy, along with the red discard-draw spells like Faithless Looting , Tormenting Voice , Cathartic Reunion , etc. and the wheel effects like Reforge the Soul , Fateful Showdown , Wheel of Fate , Dark Deal etc.

Magus of the Abyss / Defiler of Souls / Reaper from the Abyss and the under-used Archfiend of Depravity will do pretty well at keeping folks down
