Wort wants moar card draw

Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Dec. 12, 2016, 5:50 p.m. by Halphinian

I have recently been playtesting a new Wort, the Raidmother commander deck, and have found that I need a lot more card draw to be able to fetch my win conditions and other spells. So far I have Harmonize, Seer's Sundial, Staff of Nin, and Collective Unconscious. Being the player that I am, I was expecting to pull at least one of these in my opening hand or be able to tutor for it, but apparently doesn't work that way, so if you know any cards that would help, please tell me

I will be putting a link to the deck here shortly, as I have yet to add all of my cards to a list

Update:

Thanks to everyone for your responses, I have looked at all of your suggestions and have chosen some that have drastically improved this deck. I am really lazy, so I have yet to add the deck, but I have tested it multiple times and my draw problem has been solved.

Garruk, Primal Hunter's -3

Drumhunter (conditional)

Nissa, Vital Forces ultimate

Garruk's Packleader if you have enough reasonably sized creatures.

Chandra Ablazes -2

You have a lot of good suggestions already, but Mind's Eye is worth looking into if you haven't tested it already. Also, Shamanic Revelation is a cheaper Collective Unconscious. Based on your commander, you could theoretically run Outpost Siege and Skullclamp effectively. Hope it helps. Peace.

Wort is my fave commander to play. I suggest Manamorphose and Tormenting Voice. When copied with Wort, both of these are cheap to cast card draw spells. Plus Manamorphose will ramp you. Check out my deck at Wort: the Ramp Mother of Burn.

Skullclamp definitely! Equipments others have mentioned plus maybe Skeleton Key (?)

Good call on Shamanic Revelation too. If you can ramp, Dragon Fodder, Wort, the Raidmother, hit a sorcery that draws for each creature you control then use those creatures to do it again WHEW

Soul's Majesty, Momentous Fall, Life's Legacy, Hunter's Insight... Genesis Wave, Green Sun's Zenith, Eldritch Evolution, Natural Order, Summoner's Pact... Birthing Pod... there's Worldly Tutor and Sylvan Tutor but you can't double them

Fierce Empath, Fauna Shaman, Brutalizer Exarch, Conduit of Ruin, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth

Garruk, Primal Hunter, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, Domri Rade, and Doubling Season is already gas with wort

I'm trying to think up cards that I like for my omnath build haha. I don't own all these, and you can't fit what everyone has suggested (clearly there's a bunch)! Have fun!!!

For all possibilities, check the first two lists on my profile "about me" section. There you will be able to see all your options and pick your favorites.

Wort interacts well by copying red hand cycle spells that have an additional casting cost of discarding a card.

When copied with Wort (or any other copier like Mirari, Dual Casting, Howl of the Horde, etc.), these spells read differently.

Tormenting Voice and Wild Guess both require you to discard a card. Then you draw two cards. Tap 2 red creatures to copy the spell (you do not pay the additional casting cost, copies of spells are not cast) and draw 2 more cards.

In short, you pay to draw 2 cards. -1 Tormenting Voice, -1 card discard, +2 cards draw, +2 cards copy.

Magmatic Insight is only for the same effect mentioned above, the prerequisite is discarding a land. Same idea, -1 card in hand to cast, -1 lets say its a Mountain, +2 cards drawn, +2 cards for copy.

Cathartic Reunion is the strongest, but requires the most resources. You gotta discard 2 this time but get to draw three. -1 Cathartic Reunion, -2 cards discarded, +3 drawn, +3 drawn for copy. You drew 3 cards for 2 mana. (and may have gotten rid of things you don't want.)

Don't forget to stack spell copiers to maximize spell output!
