Who's a good match for me

Commander Deck Help forum

I want to find a new commander, I am unsure who I want as my commander, I am looking for a fun and semi competitive deck, around $100 - $150 and I am open to all deck ideas, so hit me with your best deck

You can't go wrong with Green in EDH. For a first deck, I'd personally recommend Omnath, Locus of Mana or Yeva, Nature's Herald. Slightly different play styles but really, green good stuff can be done for that budget range. You may not get all the good toys but you'll get enough depending upon your card choices.

If you're looking to go two color, I'd recommend going gruul with Ruric Thar, the Unbowed and however many good stuff creatures you have with a handful of utility spells (literately) can be a decent deck. Green has enough ramp creatures that are cheap to get around his hefty CC.

Have you visited EDHREC? If not I really recommend the site. I've put the direct links to the commanders mentioned above here for you but poke around a bit until you see something that you like. Just remember that if you view an "average" deck this will likely be out of your budget range for an EDH deck and I'm saying this not knowing how large a collection you have and what not.

Apparently it didn't like them the first time.

maybe try Selvala, Heart of the Wilds. its fun, and can be made competitive if you so choose.

Sram, Senior Edificer voltron with a smattering of MLD. The swords can increase the $$... But they also are nice to have for several other decks you may wish to make.

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a really fun commander, and she's tier 2 if you build her right.

Zedruu the Greathearted is fun, again, if you build her right.

Do you have a preferred playstyle (or one you're aiming for with the deck)? this will seriously help in determining a commander.

I know I want to be in green because I love ramping, I want a general that can take advantage of that, but with my playgroup,, targeted removal is everywhere, so I need a resilient deck

Resilience comes through deckbuilding. And you'll have lots in G/X. Do you have a preferred win condition or play style? Do you like playing beat down? Voltron? Combo? Answers to these kind of questions will help you determine what commander might be good for you. I could recommend Nath of the Gilt-Leaf, but if you don't like playing stax then he's not the commander for you. The more info you can give us, the more we can help.

I do not like voltron, I want a deck that's main point is its commander, and my playgroup already has a stax deck in it, I don't mind combos, but I prefer when I get to do crazy things like cast big creatures free, or cast a TON of spells in one turn

I think I am misunderstanding; in a Sram deck the commander IS the spearhead & IS the main point & also is low CMC & the card draw lets you cycle through all sorts of fun stuff. but maybe the not liking of voltron precludes all of that?.... But yeah casting random freeB creatures or a TON of spells aren't really his thing... Resilience is pretty good if you want to add any control (my form happens to be MLD), spot removal is rarely an issue d/t the amount of hexproofing you can easily add in to that deck for very cheap. I think every time I've played him I've had some form of Hexproofing, he is usually pretty strong against those 'blue counter' types due to being such a low cost & not really caring much about the countering of your low-tier equipment (you still get a card draw & thus you don't start losing card advantage that way)

I have a Saskia deck with all the possible chaos effects, things like: Omen Machine, blahblahblah, there's a bunch of that type of stuff I can't remember the names of... Can knock a few people out in one turn but basically drops things free & is a bunch of fun... Absolutely 0 control though, kindof funny to watch all the late game planners be forced to play their instants.

But I'd generally agree that what you are describing sounds Red/Green dominant

Since you want to go budget, I suggest that you play a mono-colored general due to the fact that a well optimized stax deck should easily be able to lockdown someone who plays an inefficient mana base with ETB tapped lands. This will also allow you to invest more of your budget in actual cards instead of dual lands. Since you want to play green and use your general, then I second Wurmlover and suggest Selvala, Heart of the Wilds. She is a fairly high tier general that has the potential to combo as well as play larger creatures.

If you are looking for a green commander that ramps and resilient, I think there is no better commander than Kruphix, God of Horizons. Kruphix is extremely hard to kill, ramps very quickly, and is fun yet semi-competitive.

I should have probably mentioned that my budget was for actual cards, I will more than likely have a good mana base for nearly any deck colors already, and if not I would be willing to upgrade it over time

Wee_Dragonaut: I see so many Kruphix decks where people think his ability ramps (he doesn't, It's just mana storage at a rate of 1-1). Honestly he just seems so boring to me. Why not go with Prime Speaker Zegana and draw all the cards for all that gas?

@Will361405: "Semi-competitive" is a hard area to nail because your not fully committing to combo nor are you fulling committing to the creature strategy. However the best combo to include in semi-combo decks is probably Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and its respective components so that you are not including jank in your deck. If you don't care about the money you spend on your mana, then I would suggest Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. He is high fairly high tier, very aggressive, creature heavy, resilient, contains green, and works with the aforementioned combo. I think this should check everything on your list. This deck should be a good place to start since it is the premier competitive Ruric thar list on the Tappedout EDH Tier List. Just replace what you do not have the budget for.
