Tymna, Without a Partner?

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey all.

I love the Orzhov guild and I love Tymna the Weaver, but I for some reason dislike Ravos, Soultender, so I decided to build a deck around her alone.

The deck is a lot like an Athreos deck but with more reliable CA, (Athreos is in there for good measure) and goldfishing it has been pretty fun. Most of the cards I'm buying (and trying to keep this purchase under $80 if you look at the aquireboard) and before I do I want some feedback on the deck, you know, for some other eyes to look at it and point out any weaknesses.

Tymna Alone is Pretty Fun

Thanks in advanced!

You could do a life manipulation deck with her.

First i have to start off with, what about Ravos do you dislike, besides the fact that hes 5 cmc?

And after my own expierences with Tymna in a deck im brewing my self, http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/my-anthem-deck/ if you'd like to see, i'm basing this off the fact that i was play testing on a single night several times, in a 1vs1 with a friend, imo i got quite a few cards through Tymna, the effect is only bigger if i attack more people to get more cards, with this in mind i belive you can lay off some of the extra card draw, perhaps put a bit more mana rocks in. But again this is just my openion

There are quite a few shadow creatures (eg. Nether Traitor) which are unblockable in most cases. These are a good source of constant card advantage.

While you might not like Ravos compared to Tymna, having both isn't a bad idea. Being able to buff all your creatures is worth a slot, especially since it's also graveyard recursion.

I was actually thinking maybe this direction. It sounds really fun, and maybe I could go Selenia, Dark Angel.

I have no real reason to DISLIKE him, I just... I don't know maybe the art haha. Honestly I just never have liked him. Maybe it's because I've played against him in the past and got crushed. I also was watching MTG Muddstah's videos and a guy named Mat played a really cool looking Tymna the Weaver only deck. I thought it was a fun idea to just use a partner without another one.

Using only one partner when 2 are available seems dumb to me. Its literally a free card in hand with a great ability every game. I've heard of the "75%" deck building philosophy, but not the "leaving out 50% of your partner commander" philosophy. Not sure what the point of that decision is. I would just bite the bullet and buy a Ravos, its always gonna be better with both. Jamming 2 commanders is extremely powerful!! Why would you pick a partner commander and ignore its ability to partner? Why not just build the deck as a mono black deck and stop casting your commander all together?
