Commander Deck Help forum

Posted on Jan. 19, 2020, 9:49 p.m. by BloodBathingDemoness

Im looking for recommendations for a general. I'd like to build a deck around snow permanents, I'm not expecting it to be cEDH at all but at least something that can throw a few good punches here and there.

They look really funny to play but all the generals I saw on Edhrec seemed so boring to use. So my questions are, does anyone have a snow deck? Which commander do you use and why?

Thanks for the help ♡

I see you mentioned edhrec but did you see this article? If not, perhaps it can offer some inspiration.

Mj3913 yes I did and I think Jodah, Archmage Eternal and Golos, Tireless Pilgrim are cute and also very "safe" to play as commanders. One reduce the cost of card to WUBRG which I saw maybe 4 or 5 snow cards that aren't already 5 or less CmC so I don't really see the point and the other guy is bringing lands and nothing else until I can get to the mana to use his other ability. I'm not saying Golos isn't good but in my play group it's a walking target.

That's why I was wondering what people we're playing as generals and why.

Mj3913 I'm looking for something daring maybe a little bit high risk high reward or something unexpected that you don't see everywhere.

Heidar, Rimewind Master is what you are looking for. Don't worry about bouncing your opponent's threats and countering them. Go for broke: Cast Stasis , then on the end-step before your turn, bounce it. Untap and recast it for the lock. Winter Orb and Static Orb also work!

What else to bounce? Perplexing Chimera can be a beast. Use Heidar in response to Mulldrifter 's sacrifice clause and bam! Two extra cards a turn. Solemn Simulacrum works with it too!

Abuse these cards with other copies like Tradewind Riders or with Aphetto Alchemist effects for more value! Magewright's Stone , Thousand-Year Elixir , Rings of Brighthearth , Illusionist's Bracers , Pemmin's Aura , Freed from the Reel, etc.!

For some reason Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa came to mind. Partnered with Silas Renn, Seeker Adept for colors

Your saying that Golos is very safe and that he is a huge target at your table. I feel like those are opposites... To me he seems exactly like a high risk high reward.

Some other potential options for you:

Heidar, Rimewind Master - This is neither high risk nor high reward but it is very snowy.

Chulane, Teller of Tales - I never would have thought of this but he actually seems like he would be pretty solid if you look at this page

The theme looks pretty neat but there doesn't seem to be a lot of support which makes me sad. There is a page for it in the Themes section of EDHrec. Maybe that will help? I saw K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth on that page but didn't see a lot of snow on the page for him...

I'd say sultai is the best color combo if not that then simic. I'd go for either Tasigur, the Golden Fang or Sidisi, Brood Tyrant or maybe Damia, Sage of Stone . Red and white seem to add very little to the archetype

DrukenReaps when I said safe I meant there's no down side to play him he's just boring. You play him or you don't the deck doesn't really care. The only thing that will matter is my opponents freaking out that I'm playing him.

Also I went through the entire edhrec stuff and nothing much came out of it.

shadow63 Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Damia, Sage of Stone looks nice. I'll look into it. Thanks.
