Specifically Anti-Narset List

Commander Deck Help forum

I'm getting very bored of getting Narsetted.

While I hate to make a deck specifically to counter one particular deck, that's the world we live in.

What are some cards that are anti-Narset?

I'm thinking:-forbid or steal extra turns.-very fast blockers, preferably hexproof/shroud.-state-based minuses to toughness.-A way to disrupt early ramp/targetted LD

Initial thoughts: Propaganda, Ghostly Prison, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite (too slow ..:( ? ) Baleful Strix

That card that ends the turn and exiles the stack (forget its name). The spell that returns 'all spells to their owners hands'. The problem with those is speed.

Glaring Spotlight, Arcane Lighthouse, Bonds of Mortality- ignore her hexproof so you can Murder her. I don't know if there are others.

Pillow fort effects like Propaganda stop attacks before they happen.

Stranglehold is awesome against extra turn decks.

Archetype of Courage makes her much easier to block.

A very different approach could be Hive Mind, make them regret everything. Say the narset player casts Time Stretch. Narset's goes on the stack first and then player 2, player 3 and finally player 4. After the narset player's turn ends player 4 will get 2 extra turns then player 3 then player 2 and finally the narset player gets their 2 extra turns. Mostly just hilarious but their isn't much a hive mind won't screw with.

Is this for 1v1 or multiplayer?

Stranglehold is a good card against them. Other than that, I've found sweepers and blockers can do the trick. It depends how much protection/evasion your Narset player uses in their deck.

Cheap sweepers would be ideal: Bontu's Last Reckoning, Toxic Deluge, Chain Reaction, etc

Edict effects would work well too, since Narset is usually their only creature. Diabolic Edict, Chainer's Edict, Fleshbag Marauder, Innocent Blood, Liliana of the Veil, Merciless Executioner, Slum Reaper, Smallpox, Syphon Flesh, Tyrant's Choice.

So Black-Red looks like a good choice. Maybe use Mogis, God of Slaughter as your commander?

Oh since -1/-1 effects are a consideration you could think about Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons. I have a deck for her Mistress of Poisons. It is worth thinking about because of Black Sun's Zenith, Carnifex Demon, Contagion Engine, Harbinger of Night, and Midnight Banshee among a few others combine with any proliferate effect and you kill her provided they don't buff (note proliferate chooses so it bypasses hexproof/shroud). So many mass -1/-1 effects happen with Hapatra that it takes considerable buffs to keep a 2 toughness alive.

And if you run more tutors than I did you can win turn 3 or 4 with a decent amount of consistency....

Here are some hate cards that have game against lots of decks including Narset: Declaration of Naught, Meddling Mage, Nevermore, Gideon's Intervention, Arcane Laboratory, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Teferi's Moat. The back of Path of Mettle  Flip would be great.

Stranglehold, that's what I was thinking of...trouble is speed, I often don't get a turn if Narset connects even once unless he is really unlucky.

Didn't think about Hapatra! Awesome card, fits the bill. Innocent blood/smallpox is good too since Narset is the only creature.

Also didn't think about Moat type effects, but Hapatra or similar is what I need since this is a good 1 v 1 deck and I should count on a force of will AND at least one removal like Capsize, Swords to Plow, etc. So I really need to have, in terms of the tempo of how our games unfold, three 'things', so that one sticks.

Pestilence is a good option, especially coupled with something like Darksteel Myr.

Reanimation Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is a fast way to shut down Narset. That and Vryn Wingmareesque effects. Fast blockers seem meh.

Why though?

Gaddock Teeg might be another good commander choice. With his colors you can run the already mentioned Nevermore, Gideon's Intervention, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Glaring Spotlight, Arcane Lighthouse, Bonds of Mortality, Archetype of Courage, and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.

I think maybe RBW with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death Keep board wiping and making you opponent sac either Narset and/or your own creatures. Your commander reanimates the smaller ones and you have things like Unburial Rites to bring back big things like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. Koskun Falls and Ugin's Nexus are also options for slowing down narset and preventing a extra turn.
