Simic Token Engine

I have an idea of where I want this to go, but I have a few overlapping ideas. The concept I'm trying to achieve is a token engine for simic, with a rational budget.

Essentially I want Tatyova, Benthic Druid and her wonderful ramp to be the oil to grease the cogs of this machine. What I'd like to see is many odd tokens, a menagerie or mismatched bunch of token creatures on the field at once. Then I'd like to Biomass Mutation them, or upgrade them with Hour of Need and if they are not able to cooperate all become Essence of the Wild .

Now I know a lot of the tokens generate in this deck will be quite measly so I was hoping to give them teeth with Ohran Frostfang or just sneak them past with Archetype of Imagination . I guess my initial inspiration was Fable of Wolf and Owl . I just want to pump mana into tokens and swarm the field. The reason I chose this commander is because I saw potential with her constant ramp. Perhaps I could get enough mana on the board and abuse Faerie Formation , Ant Queen , Biogenic Ooze , Jade Mage , and Centaur Glade .

I threw in a few of the landfall staples and typical green ramp, but I am not normally a simic player so I'm failing to find the necessary protection and ways to smooth this concept out. I know Doubling Season and Rhystic Study will be suggested but in my play group we generally keep decks under $200, so bear with me.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey, you should consider looking into using Ezuri, Claw of Progress as the General for your deck. Ezuri can be an enabler for big green ramp with mana dorks that can tap to make mana equal to their power and/or number of +1/+1 counters they have.

At combat put all the experience counters on one of these dorks and then use that dork to make mana at your second main phase or after. Use all this green mana with token mana sinks:

Other reasons to use Ezuri with tokens are to take more advantage of Champion of Lambholt and Sage of Hours . Lambholt can make your token army unblockable and she gets a counter whenever a token is created. She can get huge with Ezuri and tokens. Hours can give you infinite extra turns with Ezuri. All Hours needs are 5 experience counters which can be placed on him via Ezuri each combat. This lets you attack with the tokens at the extra turn and keep doing this until all your opponents are dead.

@GeistKing I agree with multimedia. Ezuri is a bit more expensive but is a much more efficient engine for what you'd like. You're only losing out on some card draw, but you're in blue anyway so you're good on that. I'd also stray away from landfall effects and stick to one main theme (tokens), and maybe a little sub theme (+1/+1 counters) just because its a budget deck. Obviously include staple ramp and card draw spells. Budget token generation is hard for me to help with because I'm not worried about budget myself. You could add Orochi Hatchery or Snake Basket . Chasm Skulker and Reef Worm come to mind, as well. I know it's expensive but you cant really run Green tokens without at least Parallel Lives . Doubling Season would be a game changer in an Ezuri token deck but to each their own.

Also, my own Commander suggestion, if you may: if you really like the whole Biomass Mutation + hella tokens idea, then you should look into Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer . Tons of shenanigans. Almost kinda sorta a Biomass Mutation on a stick but better imo. And you get to do things like replicate your creatures with Quasiduplicate or something, then turn all your tokens into whatever you copied. My personal favorite is Scuttling Doom Engine + a sac outlet. Or just hang out and dare someone to board wipe lol. Also replicating Hellrider or Inferno Titan , then turning your tokens into either of them is great fun. For you at least, not anyone else lmao. Games are always different and diverse with Brudiclad and I bet he can be a decent budget commander. You can take a look at my Brudiclad deck if you'd like, its on my page. It's not budget in the least, but it will give you an idea of how the deck goes.
