Scooze Vs. D.R.S.

Commander Deck Help forum

Was looking for opinions on Scavenging Ooze Vs. Deathrite Shaman. One of the decks I play with in my playgroup is an Artifact deck that does a crap ton of graveyard shenanigans. I have DRS in the deck now but he doesn't do anything to artifacts and was thinking the ooze would be a better fit. Thoughts?? The deck is...My deck:

Depends on what you're using the card for. Scooze is better as a grave-hate engine, but DRS has way better utility overall. I prefer DRS. If grave-hate is what you want though there are better options than either.

If you have time, what are some of the other options you would suggest?

If you want one-shot graveyard nukes, I'm a fan of Nihil Spellbomb. Tormod's Crypt is ok, and leaving one on the field is a good bargaining piece. I didn't check, but am I correct in assuming you already run Bojuka Bog?

If you want something more permanent, Leyline of the Void won't hurt you and has the obvious potential upside of coming down turn 0. Plus you could add Helm of Obedience if you wanted to be a dick haha.

One of the things I like about D.R.S. and the Ooze is that I can reanimate them easily when they get destroyed and start Exiling again. And yes, I already run a Bojuka Bog and also an Identity Crisis.

If you can find room for both, then play both. I play both in my Karrthus deck. Scooze as an early beater and GY hater and DRS for some neat utility. There's also Withered Wretch if you're not playing it already.

I think I am going to try to get the Scooze in there with DRS, just not sure what to take out as I also need to add Saffi Eriksdotter into the deck.

Relic of Progenitus is a really good one because its never dead. You can use the tap ability to slowly thin graveyards or if you don't need it you can sac it to draw a card. It's nice like that - flexible.

Try Rest in Peace. That will shut down the graveyard shananigans.

He's playing a graveyard deck himself.

Play both. If you don't have the space for both, make space. They're both great cards.

Scooze can exile cards on a pinch without regard to their type. DRS gives you great utility (after 6 life loss, your opponents will seriously want to get rid of him).

Honestly, it doesn't matter what you play. These cards do not work for you, they work against your opponents. If these cards provide some synergy with other cards in your deck, great. But most importantly, they hinder your opponents' graveyard shenanigans. And any serious Commander deck uses its graveyard in one kind or another. If you can disable that advantage, you're one step closer to winning. If you can give yourself some small bonus at the same time (and be it a removal spell on these cards), all the better.

If you're in the colors, play both.

Angel of Finality is pretty good in Karador, too. It can be recurred, gets rid of a graveyard completely, and doesn't mess with your yard.
